If your washer's agitator is loose or wobbling, the agitator cap may be worn or broken. This quick DIY fix takes under 15 minutes—just pull off and replace.
Simply lift up the old filter and cap and discard it. The new assembly simply pushes down and on to the agitator base. It stays in place by clicking over a raised perimeter rib on the base. This is the easiest repair (short of screwing in a light bulb) that one could do. The hardest part was to identify which parts I needed to purchase. I searched YouTube and found several videos that helped me diagnose the most probable cause. I learned how to open the cabinet and access the parts from the videos. I ordered a new discharge hose and a replacement pump. The parts came in the next day with the standard shipping option! It turned out that the old discharge hose was blocked. I could not find specific online instructions for this job. Here are some tips. 1. Unplug the washer. 2. Unscrew the dial on the broken timer. 3. Gently pry up the thin plastic place-indicator plate (the thing with the arrow under the dial) with two flathead screwdrivers. 4. Unscrew the two hex screws holding the old timer in place. 5. Replaced clutch assembly, gearcase input shaft seal and motor coupler. When I disassembled the washer I realized the shaft seal on the top of the gearcase was leaking and not the input shaft seal. So had to order more parts before I could finish this job. Altogether I replaced agitator dogs, both seals on the gearcase, the clutch assembly and the motor coupler.
