Replaced upper and lower thimble's, lever arm, cam closure. Door stop was not the problem, but ordered it and replaced it too. The door of course has to come off, remove the top hinge, and lift it away. Lubricated moving parts with silicone spray. Be sure and put the door back in the open position, so the lever arm and cam closure can properly interact, then close the door. Remove the plastic grate at the bottom to get at the lever arm. Presto. Problem gone. Don't put excessive weight... Read more

Replaced the stripper and fill cup - turns out that the fill cup came with the locking tab broken off. The stripper had a missing paddle, and ice cubes would jam and shut down the ice maker periodically. Let the ice maker warm up after you remove it so the plastic is not so brittle. You have to pry the old stripper out. Make sure the new one locks all across the front. My refrigerator has the ice maker mount toe the side instead of from the hangers in back. For the most part it was a matter of taking out the old and putting in the new. There were a few screws with wheels to replace but that was easy as well. Pulled down the existing drain tube and installed new one. Tight area so it requires two hands to push up and attach the new tube. The short rubber tubing attached to the new drain tube has to fit snug onto the plastic tube connection that hangs down. When I took it apart I found that the drive cup was cracked, the helix lock plate hole was reamed out and the ice deflector spring was broken. The biggest problem was the helix had slipped down the shaft and allowed the end of the shaft to bore a hole in the housing which made it a bear to get out. Others have had the same problem. Once I got past that obstacle, it was simple to replace all the parts and it's working like normal again. Very helpful video explaining the repair. Read more

It started with clicking sounds for about 10 seconds at random times throughout the day. eventually the clicking sounds were gone and the temperature in the fresh food section was dropping below freezing. Ice was not being dispensed when lever was pushed in either crushed or cubed mode I removed the ice bin. After searching the web for reasons for this I pulled the bin out and started looking at auger assembly. I noticed that the sections of the Helix blades were missing. Ordered the Helix here at AAP and received the part the next day. The whole process took about an hour and as others have noted, you have to disassemble the bin assembly to get the auger assembly out. I watched the video... Read more
