If the oven burner would not light but the broiler would this indicated that the safety valve is OK. Problem had to be with the igniter. Removed the bottom panel in the oven and restarted the oven. The igniter would not glow at all. It should be brilliant red.
This is where the problem came in. I could not find the location of the model on the Kenmore range anywhere you would normally look - the back, the wiring envelope, the oven door jamb etc. Also the igniter cannot be removed from...

Tested the power to the unit by turning on the cooktop portion and saw that I had power to all of the burners. Turned the selector knob to broil and saw that the top element would heat up. I then turned off the breaker to the unit. I then decided to take out the baking element to do a continuity test. When I touched it, a 1.5 inch section fell out. Previous tenant's apparent oven fire. Randolph M. • Chicago , IL • October 19, 2018
The previous tenant in my daughter's new apartment apparently had a grease fire of sorts in the GE XL44 gas oven. This left the insulating double glass panes so fouled up that one could not see into the oven. I removed the oven door (just lifts off the hinges) and proceeded to disassemble the door so as to get to the glass panes. That's when the real problems arose: the window seal rope, which lays around the edge of the opening to the oven, was burnt to a crisp -- see photos. The oven...

Failure to hold temperature after preheating. Michael D. • Wilmington , DE • January 07, 2023
