Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice maker stopped making ice.   Steve C. • Dripping Springs , TX • September 30, 2019

Well, I got online and found several YouTube videos on how to check what was happening. I have a multimeter and tools. I first replaced the external water filter just to make sure it wasn't that, and it needed it. That wasn't the problem. I then removed the water inlet valve which was really easy. I didn't disconnect the water lines but I did unplug the power plug. Using the ohms setting on the meter, I tested the coil of the valve solenoid. It wasn't open. I checked the voltage at the plug... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Bottom dollar fridge parts break when you look at it wrong thank goodness for app.   William G. • Canton , CT • November 24, 2017

Maybe 6 or 7 years ago I had a fridge conk out on me just before Christmas. It was loaded with food for the holiday, including a prime rib roast that was the hope and dream of the holiday for every red-blooded non-vegan in the house. In order to save the day I bottom-dollared a Frigidaire replacement. It performs well temperature-wise, but when it was only a couple years old the door handle cracked wide open. It was so delicate, you'd think that it was a movie prop "Break-Away Refrigerator... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You 21 month old Frigidaire upright freezer died.   John P. • Enola , PA • August 02, 2019

Noticed Rolls on the top shelf no longer frozen, though the meat around it still was. Note: This is a good test, keep something that thaws quickly and is not expensive on top shelf, to act as a barometer for your freezer health! I first found a trip online to advance the defrost timer, as a failed timer is a common issue. I advanced the timer, but nothing happened. I emptied the freezer, then removed the thermostat and tested it. No continuity! With the Freezer continuing to thaw, I... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice maker quit making ice was not getting water   James M. • Natchitoches , LA • July 26, 2015

This was one of the easiest appliance repairs that I have ever done. I simply moved the refrigerator out of the cubby hole in which it resides, turned off the water supply at the wall, unplugged the electric cord, loosened the water supply line at the valve (had a water absorbent rag and small plastic bowl to catch what drained from the line), place it in the bowl and moved it aside. The valve was easily accessible and two screws detached it from the edge of the refrigerator box. Once loose, I... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You This was for a friend of mine his refrigerator stopped cooling   Gary G. • Ofallon , MO • July 12, 2015

This was a 2000 model so rather than just replace the defrost timer which was visibly burnt on the terminals, we just did everything. The cold control, defrost timer, thermostat, defrost heater and the compressor capacitor were all replaced. I had the same issue on my older unit and tore it apart replacing one item at a time over a three month period so on an older one i suggest do it all while it is apart. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You My Frigidaire frost free commercial freezer was screeching louder than the wheels on my radio flyer red wagon when it was overloaded with 5 cent return for deposit coca cola bottles back in the 1960's   Daniel G. • El Paso , TX • January 24, 2021

In short - I replaced the evaporator fan motor and the evaporator fan blade. The Appliance Parts Pros website was extremely helpful to me. Here's how. 1. The site helped me identify that even though my Freezer says it's a Frigidaire, it's actually an Electrolux. 2. The site identified the potential screech causing parts. (I didn't take a chance, I bought all three) It was a worthwhile investment. My freezer is 20 years old so it deserved some help. 3. The site provided guidance videos (not... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The bottom heating element wasn't working in top oven   Kevin Scott W. • Parker , CO • January 09, 2015

Before we replaced the board, my wife tried to replace just the element. We had one we had ordered several years ago when this same thing happened. When that didn't work we replaced the board and could see where the old board was damaged so we figured this was the solution. It would have been except the bottom element my wife used to replace the old element (which was fine but had been thrown out figuring the new one was new so why keep the old one) was 1" shorter in the back than the old... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You 1: loud noise on freezer side. 2: no water dispensing   Matt M. • Pickett , WI • February 05, 2021

1. After hearing a loud noise on the freezer side of unit about halfway up, I started investigating what it could be? My conclusion was evaporator motor or evaporator fan blade. One of the signs of this issue was a distinct change in sound when I opened the freezer door. I ordered a new motor and blade, not knowing exactly what it was. 2. I couldn't get water to dispense, so I changed the filter and that wasn't the problem. I ordered a water valve and crossed my fingers. These parts arrived... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You My frigidaire refrigerator wasn't cooling but my freezer was   Pamela A. K. • Dickinson , TX • June 22, 2016

I paid to have a repairman diagnose the problem, HOWEVER, after submitting a quote for repair I knew that it was a ripoff to take advantage of us. He said the prices for the part and labor was given to him by his company. The part (evaporator fan motor) cost me under 40.00 from AppliancePartsPro, yet they wanted 90.00 for it. The labor charge they quoted was 190.00 to install the fan motor, yet after googling the day to install it, it took 10 minutes, had to remove 6 screws and unplug the... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Broken handle on refrigerator door   Margaret J. • North Olmsted , OH • January 29, 2016

I ordered a replacement handle and screws. The process was very easy with the help of one of your "pros" who found all the parts needed and took my order. I didn't realize I was getting both a refrigerator door handle and a freezer door handle in one set, but now we have the freezer handle if we need it. Removing the old handle and installing the replacement was very easy. It looks great, in fact the replacement is metal, whereas the original was plastic, so it looks better than it ever did! I originally ordered the Fan motor from a appliance dealer. I waited for 5 days for it to arrive. In the meantime I scavenge a motor from a junk refrigerator from the dump.
