Nicholas S Little Falls , NY February 07, 2021 Loud rumble during spin cycle in front load washer. I fixed this problem in august of 2020 by replacing the bearings, but the problem occurred 2 months later. I got new bearings again, took the machine apart again, and changed the bearings again. Upon reassembly, I noticed a lot of wear on the shaft of the drum. I then ordered a new spider arm assembly, replaced it, and reassembled the machine. It's working great now, quiet and smooth. If you're going to go through the effort of dissassembling the whole machine to change the bearings, I would strongly recommend that you change the spider arm assembly to get a new shaft also. Thomas S Placerville , CA December 01, 2020 Appliance: Model WM 2016CW Loud thumping during the spin cycle. Thought it was the bearings that had gone out, but when I took the clothes out of the washer the drum had too much up and down movement. Took the whole washer apart, which was not that difficult. As the drum slid out, the shaft connected to the spider was cracked. Hey, I see six 10mm bolts to remove it and what I thought was going easy was not. Out came the propane torch and WD 40. Spray the bolts and put a lot of heat on and out each one came easily. Big wack on the old one and out it came. The new spider went in the same way. Loctite the bolts and put the whole washer back together. Ran the spin cycle and no noise, back to normal. Read More... David B Vineland , NJ September 20, 2020 Appliance: LG WM2016CW/00 Smoke coming from inside washer Read a number of similar problems and narrowed it down to the spider arm assembly. Washer came apart fine following video. Just basic mechanics. Washer wash filthy behind stainless drum and spider arm. Cleaned easily with hose and brush. Spider arm had holes in it but no breaks. Everything went back together fine. Mind you my old body ached and it was several days without a washer, almost two weeks because I pulled it apart before ordering part. This allowed me to soak drum gasket that is virtually impossible to clean in bleach overnight killing mold and mildew and it scrubbed up well. After putting it back together it tested fine then didn’t run the next day. Wife not happy. Fortunately the problem was easily fixed - hose got kinked irreversibly so I replaced them and it is running like normal. When it fails next however we will not get another front loader due to mold and mildew problem even with regular cleaning, tablets, bleach and leaving door open to dry (a big inconvenience and hazard). Appliance Parts Pros however was great! Easy website with helpful videos. Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 2+ hours Tools: Pliers, Screwdrivers, Socket Set

Lewis L Joppa , MD July 31, 2020 Appliance: LG Washer WM1812CW Heavy knocking during spin cycle and burning smell, bearings shot The job was not too bad using the video. The only problem I had was once the spider arm came out I noticed that the the inner tub bearing had completely deteriorated. This meant that the outer race of the bearing remained seated in the tub. I did a little more research and found other articles where people had the same problem. In order to get the race out I had to take a rotary tool and slowly cut the race. This took me about an hour because I did not want to damage the tub. After slowly cutting and tapping the race with a chisel, it finally came apart. With the race out I was able to follow the rest of the video and put everything back together. It has now been running fine for a month. Read More... Raymond H West Valley City , UT June 18, 2020 Appliance: LG WM2016CW/00 Bearing damaged rusty spider, assembly shaft worn down rusty, wobbling and grinding sound on final spin Replacing: new tub bearings, tub spider assemble, and tub ring seal. Followed video, took photos every step when removed things apart. Lubricate nuts, difficult to take out due to loctite red glue, may need good sockets and heat with hair dryer to melt red glue. Need a person to help and put bowl back, heavy especially on springs. Bring it outside or in garage, more room to work around and test out with water host before put back at original place. I fix when I have time, took me 8 hours, but good for environment, not to throw away, now runs like brand new, cost $150. Again need a friend to help putting bowl back on springs, and hook up to legs. Heavy. Take your time. Read More... Grant M Anthem , AZ March 30, 2020 Appliance: LG WM2016CW/00 It was knocking and had a burning smell when running. I found the spider arm assembly was cracked in 2 places do to corrosion from our water out here. I replaced the spider arm assembly, tub seal and outer tub seal. While apart I made sure bearings for drum assembly had no play and spun smoothly. I used laundry soap for lubing tub seal inner races of bearings ant shaft of spider arm for smooth assembly. Should have ordered door seal as when machine was working incorrectly it also received slight damage. Read More...
