How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5985113 / W10820048 Suspension Rod Kit

Replaced suspension rods. Only tool needed was a putty knife to pop open the lid of my Kenmore Elite Oasis washer. Hardest part was getting my arm down into the washer alongside the tub to pop out the lower clips, and lifting the weight of the tub with one hand while setting the top of the rod into its holder with the other. But once you do two opposing corners, the other two are easy. 

I googled the problem and your web site popped up. I viewed the how to video and decided that maybe this was the problem. So I took the chance and ordered that suspension rod kit. To quote Phil Rissuto...HOLY COW! They came to me the next day. Now, if you have unmanly arms, you can reach along side of the tub and and switch out the rods. BUT otherwise, it was MUCH easier to lay the washer on its side and have one guy at the bottom and the other guy at the top and work together. BUT it WAS easy peezy!! Now came the moment of truth! I ran the washer. It went through all the cycles and the tub DIDN'T do anything more than shake a little...like it did when new!! I actually called your customer line and was telling the person who answered of my joy at being rid of that annoying problem. But I'm thinking...is this another example of "planned obsolesance?" You know...after so many years those springs are DESIGNED to fail? To generate repairs for "Whirlpool authorized service?" Well...they've been foiled by Appliance Parts Pros...Hats off to you!! 

Replaced the suspension rods and hub 

Ordered Suspension Rod Kit. Watched the video on your site. Replaced the rods in less that 30 minutes, thanks to your AWESOME video. Washer working like new again. 

I ordered the suspension rod kit for my Kenmore Oasis washer. It came with instructions and there was also a Youtube video that made it really simple. EXCEPT, the drum is really heavy and the rods are greasy. You have to pull the rod up really high to get the cap on it and that was really hard for me (I weigh 130 pounds). But when I finally got it finished it works as perfectly as this crappy brand of washer can work. Saved me over $100 and that's wonderful. 

Inspected and found cracked stator. Ordered and replaced stator. Machine is 10 or so years old so I also ordered and replaced suspension rods. 

16-year-old Kenmore Elite top load washer started banging & shacking/walking. Then through a UL error code. Did my YouTube videos and deduced it was the suspension rods. The ONLY tool needed was a putty knife to pop the lid bracket loose. Changing the rods was easy as ApplliancePartsPros.com included a video in my email receipt showing my exact washer... wow! Genuine OEM parts are in my hand 24 hours after ordering! I set up my laptop on the dryer and paused at each step. By the second rod I knew I was doing it right as each rod got harder as I went along telling me, Yep, that was the problem. Once the old rods were out you could see the difference in how much tension was NOT on the old springs. This is Sears original pert #8564009 replaced with W10820048. Replaced the suspension rods which solved to the problem of the basket banging against the sides of the washing machine. This job was incredibly easy. I also replaced the basket hub because looked like it was worn. Also a very easy job. Unfortunately, I still ran into on OL (overload) error during tests. I had to remove the drum which is when I discovered it had rusted together with the drive shaft. LOTS of penetration oil and some banging with a rubber mallet got the drum loose and off the shaft. At this point, I didn't want to buy a new shaft, so cleaned off the rust and placed drum back on. Problem solved. There was quite a bit of metal removed from the shaft due to rust, but the machine works like a champ. So no need to do that work yet. Pro Tip: Don't let the washing machine sit for a year without putting preventative oil on the shaft! 

12-year-old Whirlpool Cabrio washer was giving UL fault code on all loads no matter how small. A check online of how people who had the same code indicated the problem was fixed it with the suspension rod kit. I got the kit from Appliancepartspros and followed the instructions in the video. Worked great and my wife is now happy (at least about the washing machine) and by extension so am I. 2 notes. I taped the lid with wide blue painters tape and it did NOT hold. No damage there but I was lucky the glass lid did not break. Use a strong tape like duct or gorilla tape. Also, wear a long sleeve shirt as reaching down between the tub and housing I got scratched up a bit.
