How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3953640 / 280187 Washer Drain Pump Assembly

Looked up my model on your site and instantly found it. 

Bought a water discharge pump. Have something to catch water and some towels. This is extremely easy to do, about 20min taking your time. 

Replaced the drain pump asy. 

I was told it could be one of 3 things. I looked at all three and decided it was the drain pump and I replaced it. 

Used the video you guys provided on the site. Procedure took less than half an hour, and went smoothly. Repair was all done in front of machine, removing the lower front panel. All instructions were perfect, so we have nothing to add. Appreciate the excellent handling of our order and quick delivery of the new water pump assembly. 

Replaced pump. Bellow was replaced due to soap residue. 

So I ordered the part over-nighted as our house really needs a washer. There were no instructions in the package like the video said there would be, though I am not really sure they would be needed. The pump arrived and a flange that holds a mounting bushing was broken in the package. Superglue and epoxy repaired this as there was no time to get a new pump. Old pump came out ok except the hose clamps were positioned where it was hard to get a plier on them. There was about 8-12 oz of water that came out. My pump is the alternate mounting as discussed in the online video but that was no problem. All the parts fit well and the pump slid into the mounting holes just fine. I changed the orientation of the clamps to one where I could get the pliers on easily. One trick I did was moving the clamps back far enough to get hose fully engaged before moving the clamps into position. Tested the clamp tightness on a rinse and drain cycle and closed it all up. Overall took about 30 minutes not counting the part repair time. Would have been less if the hose clamps weren't positioned facing down. Add a flashlight to your tool list. 

New pump it works 

The error code indicated a problem draining water out of our Whirlpool Duet Laundry Washer. I checked the filter and it was clean. Next I checked the impeller on the pump and it spun with great resistance which indicated a bad pump. I called Appliance Parts Pro because they are a great resource and ordered a new pump & filter. Next I watched their video for this part which was great! When the part arrived I followed their instructions and completed the repair in about 90 minutes. My wife was thrilled to get her washer back. Thanks. 

I determined that the pump had gone south on us when the water did not drain and the pump got too hot to touch. I started researching parts online and came upon APP.com. Not only did they have the part but a video on a replacement. No b.s. or hype just what I needed to be shipped in a timely manner and updates too. I recently ordered some filters from an online store. I was told that the items would ship as soon as the cc cleared. Well, it went through that night. Two weeks later no filters, no email. After contacting them I was told that they did not even have the filters and that it may be another two to three weeks till I get my order. That experience made me really appreciate how easy dealing with APP.com was I got my washer up and running quickly thanks to APP.com and they will my first choice when I need parts again.
