Craig January 12, 2025 Hi we recently replaced the seal in our dishwasher, but it started leaking again, and when I looked underneath, part of the seal had slipped out of the bottom. It appears that the slot that should be holding it in place is larger than it should be so that the seal is not snug. When I look at the side of the door, the gray panel appears to sit flush against the bezel but as it gets closer to the seal area, it seems to separate, although when I try to push it down to make it flush, it won’t really budge. Is it supposed to separate a little bit or should it be sitting completely flush? I think if I could figure out why it’s not flush that would make that gap smaller so that the gasket doesn’t move.
1 Answer Craig, We will need to have the model number of your dishwasher to be able to assist properly with your question. Please resubmit your question with the model. Read More...
Matt October 26, 2022 for Model Number 587.14022200A If it's only a splash guard, can I just use my original gasket? It has a minor tear at the extreme ends of the damage. But if it's only a splash guard, is that really going to matter much? Yes, it looks old and tired and dirty, but seems with would be perfectly functional ( I only ordered a new one when I thought it was a leaking seal)
1 Answer Matt, as it sounds like it is not leaking at this time, replacing it would be at your discretion. Replacing it now would just ensure that there is more time available before a leak occurs. Read More...
Matt October 26, 2022 for Model Number 587.14022200A Okay, I wish I could reply to your replies, but all I can do is post again. I have a 2nd used machine here that is 2 years newer than the 587 model we are discussing here (machine A), and different branding label. Frigidaire, not Kenmore. The second newer model (Machine B) is ELECTROLUX Model FBD2400KB9B The gasket is mostly the same, and you list the same part ofr both machines. It has air holes, not a center notch, BUT 1) the aligning "notch" is curiously on the left, not the right. Since the notch doesn't actually align with anything on the machine, I can't figure out why it's reversed. You said in video to "align the notch to the right" but if that were done with the B gasket,it would be upside down and the flange edge would face the wrong direction. and 2) About 3/8" is NOT cut away on each end of the fastening edge, as it is on this part). I see no obvious reason for the change (2) above, and suspect they just decided the cut-away wasn't part on the fastening edge was not needed and the alignment tab was placed on the Left in later models. (but your video would then be wrong) The video accuracy (for the B machine) is your problem and should be looked into. As for me, can I Just ignore the alignment notch side and use the gasket I have (from machine B)? If it works, I can either return the new gasket or keep it as a spare? I think yes, but want to check first. Please answer ASAP. Waiting with tools in hand :) Thanks. I LOVE THIS SITE :)
1 Answer Matt, the gasket 809006501 for the Kenmore model is going to be a different design from the gasket 5304500204 for the Frigidaire model. As this is the case, using the correct one for the particular model would be recommended as alternating from what an appliance is designed to use can affect performance. In regards to alignment, aligning the gasket as it is set originally by the manufacturer would be the recommendation. Read More...
Matt October 26, 2022 for Model Number 587.14022200A Thank you for answering my question about the bottom gasket on my Kenmore dishwasher. It makes sense, but what I don't understand is why would they change it from a 6" gap in the seal, to only a 1/4" gap? They didn't need that much air?
1 Answer Matt, This looks to have been a manufacturing change possibly to be able to use this part on more than one model...etc. Read More...
Matt October 25, 2022 for Model Number 587.14022200A The old seal has a 6" notch on one edge, while the new seal has a 1/4" notch. It seems like it's the wrong part, AND would leak a little even if it is correct. I can only guess why it would be intentional. But is it? Do I just ignore the size of the notch and install it? FYI: If deliberate, the only thing I can figure out is that it's designed to leak "a bit" thru the notch, as a warning, otherwise someone could open a malfunctioning unit full of water. But do I install, it or call customer service ASAP? Thanks
1 Answer Hello Matt, The lower seal is actually a splash guard. It has to have openings so it can be used as an air inlet for the dry cycle. It is believed that the notch was made larger to enhance air circulation during the dry cycle for a better drying effect. Read More...
1 Answer Al, If you open the door all the way flat, you should be able to remove the old gasket and since it is just push-in you should be able to push the new one into the groove. Read More...
Beryl August 30, 2021 for Model Number LGBD2432LBOA Found a little strip of pliable rubber about, 1/4 of an inch round and length of door, while cleaning, it just came out. Ran dw and no leaks, my handyman was unsure of what it is. It is not hard/pliable plastic
1 Answer Beryl, the manufacturer does not show a rubber gasket in the size described being used with the model provided. The tub gasket 154827601 may need to be inspected for any indication of this piece being a torn portion of the gasket. Read More...
Tom April 20, 2021 Hello, I am looking for the white plastic strip that is on both sides of the Frigidaire Dishwater opening, but I keep getting info about the bottom strip. It is a white, hard plastic (1/2 inch wide) strip that is visible on the dishwasher body when you open the door and does not run the full height of the opening. It looks like it snaps into place. It might be for sound. Thanks
1 Answer Tom, To be able to assist with your question, we will need to have the model number of your dishwasher. Read More...
Michael April 14, 2021 for Model Number FDB635RFR4 I had water leaking out from the bottom left side of the door. I replaced both the seal around the tub and the bottom door gasket, checked the lower spray arm for cracks, and made sure the float was moving freely. The new gasket has an extra notch in the middle, but I was told it would not cause a leak. When I run the dishwasher, it appears to be leaking through the middle notch. I then removed the door to make sure the bottom gasket was secure. Any other ideas? Is the float supposed to shut off the water after it reaches a certain height? Could that be the problem?
1 Answer Michael, Yes, the float is supposed to shut off the water after it reaches a certain height. There is also a maximum fill time in th timer circuitry to help keep the dishwasher from overfilling if the float switch was to fail. You've apparently have done the basic checks and test, check and make sure the dishwasher is level front to back and side to side, make sure the dishwasher is properly secured to the cabinet. start the dishwasher and let it fill and wash for 3-5 minutes, unlatch the door, remove the lower rack and check the water level in the bottom of the tub, it should be slightly above to top of the "glass filter" at the least. If all's OK then suspect the detergent or rinse agent to be "sudsing" and leaking out the return opening in the seal. Read More...
