Common causes of a bad drive motor include wear and tear from frequent use, overheating due to heavy loads, electrical issues such as power surges, and physical damage from impact or mishandling.

Symptoms of a bad drive motor include:

  • The washing machine not spinning or agitating
  • Loud, unusual noises during operation
  • The washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Burning smell or visible signs of motor overheating

This OEM replacement is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and Kenmore models.

Juan, Based on the post information, you most likely have an issue in the timer contacts 131788300. There is a slight possibility that the motor contacts could be damaged, but if you can verify voltages at the motor terminal 1 to chassis ground should ahve 120 VA and termianl 5 to chassis ground should also have 120 vac. If the voltage is present, the timer is OK and the motor is the issue.

Marcin for Model Number Frigidaire FLSE72GCSA washer problem

During a washing process when it was supposed to start draining washer stopped and there was a burning wire smell coming from it. I turned it off took off the front panel and the control panel and plugged it back in. Set it up for the washing cycle and it started working with no problems and no smell. The belt looks ok the motor runs transmission too tensioner turns ok don't know what is wrong. The motor is getting hot but I think that what it should be. Please help. Could it be the timer???? Please help

Marcin, This washer has an electric drain pump 137221600 If the odor ocurred at the start of the drain/spin cycle, you'll need to check the drain pump and hoses for a possible clog or obstruction in the drain pump. This could also be due to a faulty drain pump motor, but that's where you want to start checking, based on your post description.

Hello Frank, This could be a broken belt, seized pulley on the transmission which would indicate that the brake may have failed not allowing release to let unit spin. If this is the case then you would need to replace the transmission.

Hello Brad, Check your pressure hose to make sure that it is not kink or clogged. Also check your drain to make sure that there is nothing clogged in it.

Steven for Model Number GLGT1142CS1

Wanted to to see if my motor or transmission is gone on my washer machine. It seems to pump out fine and do the spin cycle fine. During the wash cycle when the agitator is supposed to move there was a burning smell and the agitator does not move. I took off the front panel to see what is going on. The motor/pulley spins but the belt is not moving during the wash cycle. During the spin cycle the motor moves the drum fine. I think it might be the motor.

Hello Steven, What you can do is pull the belt off the transmission pulley. Turn the pulley and see if the transmission is locked up. You will more than likely need a transmission 134736400.

Hi. Use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. Check to see if the motor gets the 120 vac when you are on the reg. wash cycle. If so then the motor is part # 134159500. Replace the capacitor as well, part # 131212301. Thank You.

Hi Danny. Remove the back panel and find the wiring diagram. Use the same size pressure switch hose to blow into the pressure switch when it is full on a small load. If the washer agitates now then you need a pressure switch part # 134421000.You can also jump the #1 and #3 pressure switch wires together momentarily and tape them for safety. This will resolve a bad pressure switch. Blow into the hose going down into the tub. Did you feel any restriction being removed ? If so reconnect the hose and advance the full tub into a spin to reset the pressure switch. Use washer magic monthly part # TJ131 to insure proper performance. Lift the top, re4move the front panel. Jumper the lid switch 2- wires, if it agitates now then replace the lid switch part # 134101800. Use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. Then lift the top tub cover off and remove the agitator. Remove the inner tub. The inner tub mount is called a trunnion part # 131545101. It has 2-large bolts part # 137539500 holding a flat plate part # 137107000 . What happens at times one bolt will break and the flat bar cannot place the inner tub properly onto the flat notch on the side of the agitator shaft, thus no agitation. Thank You.

Hello Bonnie. Check and make sure the lid switch 134101800 is good on the unit. If so, and there is no power coming to the pump and the wires are good, you will need to replace the timer 134049600. Hope this helps.

Hi Bonnie. Remove the agitator and see if the trunnion lock plate that is 1" tall x 3" is off to one side with the bolt broken. If so then you will need the trunnion plate part # 137107000. @- bolts part # 137539500 and then the trunnion itself part # 131545101. I would use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist. you in your diagnosis. The pump will drain the water first and then the basket will spin. Make sure that the pump is not clogged and is receiving the 120 vac from the timer during the drain mode. If not then replace the timer part # 134049600. If you have advanced it and it still does not work, do you hear the motor trying to spin ? Remove the belt and now try the timer. Does the motor spin now? If so the find out if there are any balled up clothes inside the inner and outer basket holding the inner basket taught. Thank You.

Hello Mike. It is normal for the unit to drain first, then the motor 134159500 should start to spin after the water has drained down. If the unit never spins, test for power to the motor. If it is there, and the motor does not run, replace the motor. Hope this helps.
