The Door Switch is an OEM part for Frigidaire dryers. This part ensures that the dryer operates safely by only allowing the machine to run when the door is completely closed. Positioned typically at the door frame, the switch activates when the door is shut, signaling the control system that it's safe to begin the cycle.

Over time, door switches can wear out or become damaged, which can interfere with the normal operation of the dryer.

Symptoms of a faulty Door Switch include:

  • The dryer not starting when the door is closed.
  • The dryer stopping unexpectedly, which might be due to a loose or faulty switch.
  • A lack of the usual "click" sound that indicates the door has latched properly, suggesting the switch isn’t engaging.
  • The dryer continuing to run when the door is opened, which poses a significant safety risk.

This OEM Frigidaire part is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator and some Kenmore models.

For Frigidaire Door Switch (Part Number: OEM12948153)

Matt L. for Model Number GLER104FSS0

Recently my dryer started acting up. It would start and heat up as normal but would turn itself off before the timed cycle was complete. A couple of times I would push the start button and it would sound like it would briefly attempt to start but then nothing. After a few tries it would work for a time but then quit again. I noticed that at first when the door was open the inner drum light would not be on. After cycling the door switch a few times the light would come on and the dryer would work. Today I ran the dryer and it completed a cycle normal. Upon attempting to run a second cycle it started for a few minutes then stopped. Now when I open the door the light will not come on inside and nothing happens when I manually push and cycle the switch and nothing happens when I push the start button. I suspect that the door switch may be bad? Or is there something more that might be wrong. Should I start with replacing the switch and go from there?

Matt, The door switch would be a good place to start testing. Check to make sure that with the switch pushed in that you have continuity between the blue and the gray wire. If there is not continuity then the switch is definitely bad.

MZ, The cause for the motor to not spin when you push start but can manually get it going would be a faulty start winding on the motor. This would require the motor to be replaced.

Jonathan for Model Number Electrolux GLEQ642AS1

Front loading Electric Dryer, Symptoms: Motor started spinning while door was open. Turned switch to off and toggled door switch a couple of times. Now: When switching on- Motor activates for a second or two, followed by a click from the rear of the machine and motor shuts off. nothing for a minute or two, can' start motor at all. After two minutes of rest, another click from the back. Re-start and motor will work for 1 second then click, shuts off again. I tested the door switch, it works fine. It seems to be a circuit breaker of fuse overloading somewhere in the back. Is it the thermal limiter? Is it the fuse itself bad or is it getting triggered by some other problem? Thanks, Jonathan.

1 Answer

Jonathan, There are no circuit breakers or "fuses" in the dryer circuitry, There are thermal fuses and limiters, but they don't usually "click" when the circuit is interrupted. Based on the post description and information, it's more likely a faulty motor or motor switch 131560100. it has a switch that does "click" when it opens and closes. Check across the white and gray wires at the motor for 120 VAC when the start button is pressed If the voltage is present replace the motor. Be very careful when conducting "live" voltage checks.

Hello Bryan. You will need to order and replace 137008010NH based on the technicians advise. If the control board is bad, it can cause the no heating issue as well.

K for Model Number GLGR341A4

Hi, The question I have is as follows, I was replacing the belt on my frigidaire dryer. Got ahead of myself, trying to save time and tested the dryer to make sure the belt was seated correctly. The two wires going to the inside lamp (which are also connected to the door switch by a single brown wire) touched, popped and I stopped the dyer by opening the door. , however now the dryer will not start. I don't know if it is just the door switch or if it could be that the dyers start switch shorted out. Any help that you can give is welcomed.

1 Answer

Hello Debbie, This is the manuals' explaination of the door switch removal: 1. Disconnect the dryer from electrical supply, open the door and remove the top. 2. Disconnect the wires from the door switch. 3. Squeeze the release tabs on the ends of the switch and push it out the front.

Doug for Model Number Frigidaire Elec Dryer GLER341AS2

Took the front panel off to access the thermostat by the blower,in the process you have to disconnect the door switch. There are three wires going to the switch, but upon trying to remove the switch from the inside, the top plastic part of the switch came off & the wires all fell out & need help in trying to figure how they are put back inside the the switch case. The wires have connector type ends on them & can't figure how they go back in to make the switch work. Any help would be appreciated. The dryer top & control panel started getting extremely hot to touch & took apart dryer to check all the thermostats. Clothes were also taking way too long to dry. I found the shield behind the drum to be almost stopped up with gunk & the area below the lint trap also had alot of lint. Got everything cleaned out,but getting the door switch back together is holding putting everything back together to try. Thanks

Doug, If the door switch fell apart we would not have information as to how it goes back together. The wiring part of the door switch is as follows: on the switch there is a NC, C, and NO. The Brown wire will go to NC, the Blue wire will go to C or Com, and the Gray wire will go to NO.

Hello Judd. If the switch is new, then you will need to check the wiring on the unit and make sure it is good. If the wiring is good, then you will need to replace the main board in the unit.
