Joe for Model Number hss25gfpjww

Old GE fridge, ice maker panel has only buttons, light, water, ice, and crushed ice. Water solenoid works and ice maker makes ice. In the past, occasionally while dispensing ice it would stop intermittently like there was a power failure. Now, ice dispenser doesn't work at all. The flap solenoid moves slightly (not enough to open flap), but auger doesn't turn. I deduce the switch and solenoid have continuity. Is this likely to be the ice control board, or main control board? Thanks.

Hello Joe, the dispenser board [WR55X10446] is no longer available from the manufacturer.

John G for Model Number GSH25JSXJSS

I believe the controller board in my GE GSH25JSXJSS side-by-side has failed. The refrigerator and freezer compartments do not cool, and the compressor does not come on (evaporator coil does not cool at all), but the fans run. Everything was working fine, then in less than an hour, the freezer was at 60 degrees (doors were closed). I think the defrost heater came on and stayed on. Now nothing works. I had ordered a WR55X10942 replacement controller board, but it appears to not work at all. Can you confirm this is a suitable controller board for this model? If it is, I may be looking at a failed compressor. [Serial number is DS216446.]

1 Answer

John, This would be the correct main control board for this unit. As for what your issue may be, if the fans are running but the compressor is not then it would be more likely the start device has failed.

This does sound like a control issue, if it were a sensor the fans would not be running.

Cornelius for Model Number GSH25SGPASS

I got this "unworking" fridge from a neighbor. Using your website, I did some diagnosing and bought a new Main Board for it. When the new Main Board came I read the instructions and came across the cryptic "This step is ONLY applicable...ENCODER models with the following prefix..." I checked my serial #: GF266024. It started with the prefix GF2 which was part of the "included prefixes" but I didn't know how to determine if my side-by-side unit was an "ENCODER" model. How does one tell if they have an "ENCODER" model? My wiring did not look like the wiring in the instructions: the white wire at J2 was not a jumper nor was it attached to a big cylindrical unit with two wires coming out of it. It is a single white wire. I couldn't find any info as to what an "ENCODER" model meant. So, I carefully removed the wire and connector pin from the connector in case I later learned what "ENCODER" meant and that my unit was NOT required to have the wire at J2 cut. After installing the Main Board with the J2 wire removed the unit worked well (almost too well). The freezer works just fine nice and cold on 7. But the fridge part stays at 20* to 30* no matter what the temp is set to. 1 to 9 it stays a steady slightly below freezing (which kind of works for me as it's in the garage and usually holds beer, wine, and leftovers. This week, someone left the freezer door open and the unit got heavily coated in ice and the fridge temp went into the 50* range. I decided it was a good time to give it a "Spring Cleaning" and let it defrost. I unplugged it and gave it a good bath. I let it dry overnight and decided to re-visit the "ENCODER" question again. How can I tell if my side-by-side unit is a ENCODER model? What will happen if I plug the white wire back into the J2 pin on the connector? Do the symptoms of having the fridge side stay extra cold make sense if the J2 wire is pulled from a non-ENCODER model unit? Thanks for sharing your expertise.

Cornelius, This is not an encoder model refrigerator and will not need to do any additional steps other than plugging in the connectors and turning on the unit.

I may need the motherboard but before I spend the money wanted to ask. Symptom, freezer to cold, like -15 degrees freezer set on 1. Fridge too warm SOMETIMES, it is set on 9 and temp will vary from 30 to 60 degrees. the bottom of the freezer (inside) has a sheet of ice that on occasion will melt and leak out on the floor (drain hole has been cleared multiple times). it runs way too long. I have replaced the 2 temp sensors in the freezer, the evaporator fan, the defrost thermostat, the defrost heater ( it tested open) the temp sensor in the fridge. The damper does open and close I think correctly. I think that covers everything except the motherboard, correct? Thanks

1 Answer

Timothy, For the ice on the floor that melts and runs out the door, this will likely be an issue with the drain being clogged and you will want to clear this out and flush it. As for the too warm in the refrigerator compartment and too cold in the freezer, this could be caused by the same thing if the return vent is getting clogged by ice from the defrost cycle. The other potential for this would something blocking the vent on the refrigerator side behind the crisper drawers. The control board would be the least likely cause for this issue.

Based on your model number the manufacturer calls for a control part number of WR55X10775. The manufacturer usually does not share what is updated.

Fridgelady, There is a wiring diagram but we would need to have a model number to be able to assist properly.

Josh, it would be recommended that the main control WR55X10942C (part has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available) be tested for 12VDC at the connection J2 from pin 3 to pin 8. If there is voltage, there is a short in the evaporator fan and it would need to be replaced. If not, the next test would be for 12VDC at connection J4 from pin 2 to pin 3. If there is voltage, the dispenser control WR55X10298 (part has been discontinued by the manufacturer) has a short and would need to be replaced. If there was not voltage, unplug the temperature selection interface WR55X10262. If the unit starts to operate, the interface has a short and would need to be replaced. If the unit remains dead, the main control has failed.
