Questions & Answers

For Ge Damper-Shock (Part Number: OEM12797577)

1 Answer

Chris, The shocks would not cause this unit to allow the clothes to be completely dry when the cycle is finished. The unit does not appear to fill with water so checking the water valves would be the first step in the process. Also, check to make sure that there is the power to the valve.

Hello Mannt, Before suspecting the shocks you should remove the rear panel and check for loose hanging hoses, wiring harnesses, or anything that could have come out of its' retainer and is able to contact the side of the machine during the spin cycle. At his point, you can inspect the shocks for any signs of damage. Normally, if there is a shock issue, damage can be seen during inspection of the parts.

Kary for Model Number GE WASHER WBVH 5200 J1WW

My front load GE was making an unusual noise while spinning a one trouser load. I stopped it and upon opening the door white to grey colored smoke poured out. Following your video I began a tear down to determine the cause. i determined the front gasket was worn and part was pulled off and part stuck to the inner drum. I know I need to replace this item. In searching the internet it seems like the rear bearing is the culprit that causes this. However, in reviewing all available schematics I can not find any reference to a bearing on this model. I have turned the drum feeling for any resistance or wobble and there is none. I also saw a video on inner spinner problems and did the suggested tests without finding a problem. Have I missed something?

Kary, This bearings for this unit can only be gotten with the outer rear tub. For this issue you will want to visually inspect the spider at the back of the inner drum.

Jeff, If one shock is bad then all will most likely be bad but if you push down on the tub it should spring back up which would mean they are good.

Mike, If you push down on the tub and it bounces back up then the shocks are fine with the unit. If the shocks check ok then it could be a issue of the tub support being broken on the inner tub.

Chris, It would be more likely that the tub support of the inner tub may be damaged causing the unit to get off balance when there is a load in it. You will want to check the shocks and the balance ring on the unit.

Hello Rod. Based on the information you provided, you will need to order the inner basket WH45X10142 and the rear outer tub WH45X10071 to repair the unit. It sounds like the bearings may have failed in the unit.
