Greg April 24, 2016 for Model Number GE GSH25JFXBWW Our refrigerator has been running very warm. Thanks to you advice to others in your forum, I emptied the freezer and removed the back panel....you guessed it, the evaporator coil was completely frozen. I used a hair drier to melt the ice last night. I also had to chip the cold air exchange opening that allows the cold air to flow from the freezer to the refrigerator as that was blocked solid. The refrigerator side is now once again cold. Based on what I have been reading it sounds like I need to replace either the defrost timer, the heater or the thermostat. While I was defrosting the freezer, I saw both the thermostat and the heater, but I could not find the defrost timer. Does this unit have a defrost timer? Or do I simply need to replace the heater and thermostat. Do I need to buy both parts separately or is there a Defrost Heater Assembly that fits? Thank you
1 Answer Greg, For your unit it would not have a defrost timer but it incorporates a adaptive defrost control which is part of the main control board. The recommendation would be to test the defrost heater WR51X10055 to make sure that it has continuity. If it does have continuity then it is good and would not need to be replaced. If this checks ok then you can test the continuity of the defrost limiter but in most cases for your unit the limiter WR50X10065 would not be the issue with the unit. There is another component inside the freezer compartment located on the top of the evaporator on the left side and is a white piece. This is a thermistor WR55X10025 for the defrost. You will want to test this thermistor to make sure that it is good for resistance. With the thermistor sitting in ice on the evaporator it should have a resistance rating of approximately 42.2K ohms. and if you were to take it out and let it get to room temp would be 5K ohms. If this does not check ok then the thermistor will need to be replaced. if this checks ok then the control board WR55X10942C would be the issue. Read More...
Cainon December 02, 2015 for Model Number PSF26PGTAWW GE profile side by side psf26pgta ww. I am having defrost issues. It appears that my freezer is not defrosting properly and causing air flow to not properly cool the top of the freezer causing the ice in the ice maker bin to melt just enough to re freeze into a blob and the to track to not fully freeze. I checked the defrost heater with a meter and am getting 22 ohms resistance but the heater tube is scorched looking and the element spring is wet and distorted on one side. Can they read correctly on ohms and not function properly? The frost on the coils started about 8" above the heater almost like it was turning on but barely getting warm. I just ordered a new heater from here (it's removed now and I'm not putting it back in damaged) and put a defrost thermostat in a week ago. The freezer functioned perfectly for almost a week until it frosted back up. Is there anything else I can check before replacing the control board of the new heater doesn't do it? Thanks.
1 Answer Hello Cainon. Test the heater for continuity. Should read closed. If not, it is bad. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Chill November 20, 2015 for Model Number TFX25KRCGWW Coil will not frost all the way to the top. Check for ice there is none. Got a new defroster but it still freeze up at bottom. Water line is now froze. Can you help me?
1 Answer Hello Chill. The sealed system has failed on the unit and you will need an HVAC tech to come and repair the unit. Read More...
Shawnl July 10, 2015 In testing the WR51X10055 heater element in my freezer, I get 22 Ohms at room temperature (element removed from the freezer). Is that right? Or does it need to be replaced? I'm trying to figure out whether my icing coils problem is the heater element or the thermostat, or something else. Thanks.
1 Answer Shawn, Getting a resistance of 22 ohms means that the heater is good. If there is a thermistor in the freezer on top of the left side of the evaporator then test it for 5K ohms at room temp. If it does not check good then it is defective and would need replaced. Also check to make sure that the defrost limiter is showing closed. If these parts check ok then replace the main control board. Read More...
Polo July 08, 2015 for Model Number GSH25JSTFSS There is no water coming out, the refrigerator was under warranty, so somebody can and fixed it, but it only last 3 day. I tried to fix it my self and it work for couple day only. I found out that the water tube the provides water gets frozen, therefore there is not water coming out. What can I do to fix it?
2 Answers Hello Polo. You unit needs a dispenser heater WR49X10173 installed into it. Thanks. Read More...

2 Answers Hello Polo, The only thing that will cause the fill tube to freeze is low water pressure to the refrigerator or a failing water valve WR57X33326. Read More...
Virginia G. July 02, 2015 for Model Number GSL25JFTABS I will be replacing the Heater Bracket only. Will this represent an issue if I don't replace the thermostat at the same time? Thank you
1 Answer Hello Virginia, This will cause no problems unless the defrost thermostat has an issue. Read More...
Jack F. June 09, 2015 for Model Number TFX26KPDAWW I completely defrosted my GE TFX26KPDAWW freezer. I replaced the heater assembly WR51X10055. I plugged the refrigerator in and now the freezer will not produce any cold air. With the broken heater assembly unit in place it was producing cold air, but eventually the coils were icing up. Why would replacing the heater unit cause the freezer to not produce cold air as before?
1 Answer Hello Jack, The defrost circuit has nothing to do with the sealed system running and producing the refrigeration effect. There is the possibility that the ice was in fact produced from a Freon loss which would show up as a clear ice formation at the point where the lines enter the evaporator compartment. Read More...
Todd B June 03, 2015 for Model Number GSH25JSXBSS Having problems with FF side freezing with temp set on warmest setting (1) for both freezer and fresh food(FF) side. I have changed out all (3)temp thermistors and defrost thermostat. I have tried a different controller board and I have taking apart and cleaned the damper assembly. I made sure to defrost coils before each change. I checked the heater coil and it checked at 22.4 Ohms. Is there anything else that can be checked before calling in the service pros?
1 Answer Hello Todd. You will need to check the damper WR13X10988 and see if it is bad and will need to be replaced. Read More...
Bruce M. May 05, 2015 for Model Number GSS22QFMBBB I had my defrost heating element changed and they put in a double element instead of the single that was original. Now my ice cubes become a solid block because they melt a little each time the defrost comes on. How can this be fixed?
1 Answer Hello Bruce, While it is possible for the defrost to cause this, it is much more likely that the contacts for the mold heater in the icemaker have stuck in the closed position and is causing this issue. I would recommend to replace the icemaker assembly WR30X10093 to see if this corrects the issue since the defrost thermostat should turn off the defrost heater at a pre-specified temperature.
