Terr, The only way to test to see if the filter head is working is by putting the bypass in and see if water will come out.

Scott for Model Number PSS26NGPAWW

I just replaced the Water Filter Head and Tube Assembly with genuine part from your store, but am still not getting water dispensed to the door with either the filter or bypass plug installed. I can hear water getting dispensed into the filter/plug when I activate the door lever, but water doesn't make it to the door. When I subsequently remove the filter/plug, a small amount of water bursts out under high pressure. What can I try next? (History: the door stopped dispensing water 1 day after I installed a new GE MWF water filter. Unit continues to dispense ice through door. Unclear if icemaker is still making ice. Have never had problems with water or ice dispensing before.)

Hello Scott. It sounds like the water line in the freezer door is frozen and will need to be thawed out in the unit. Remove the line from the bottom of the door and see if water comes out there. If so, it is frozen in the door. You can use a hair dryer to thaw the line but it takes some time. Be careful not to melt the door.

Jim, The water filter head would be the issue for the low water flow with the filter in and it spraying water when changing the filter. The part number for the filter head will be WR02X45206.

Kim for Model Number GE PSS26MSTE SS

I have a GE Profile side by side refrigerator. I just replaced the damper assembly and water reservoir. I put everything back together, and now the water filter cartridge won't go into the head assembly. I've replaced the filter every six months for years now and never had a problem. Usually once you get the filter started, the assembly automatically sucks it up into place. This is not happening. Do I need to replace the assembly, or is this a different problem? Thanks!

1 Answer

Kim, If the filter will not go into the filter head then either the filter is defective or the filter head assembly would need to be replaced. This would be the most likely cause is that the water filter head and tube assembly is defective.

Hello David. It sounds like you need to start with the filter head. If issue continues then you would go to the water valve.

Grace, If the water line that is broken is the line that is actually in the door then the door would need to be replaced. If the water line is just the one that goes from the back of the unit to the door then you will need to replace the water tank in the unit. To replace you will pull the unit out and shut off the water supply. Remove the lower cover and disconnect the tube that leads up into the refrigerator compartment. Then remove the kickplate on the front of the unit and disconnect the water line at the door. Open the refrigerator door and remove the lower crisper drawers and remove the water tank and insert the new one. Pay close attention to how the water tube is routed for the door.

Tr for Model Number PSS26LSRCSS

I have a GE PSS26LSRCSS. A water line coming out of the water inlet valve has split open (unit is almost 10 yrs old) so water spills on the floor and the water dispenser doesn't work. Ice maker runs fine. This faulty water line is about 5"-6" long and comes out of an insulated hole just above the water inlet valve. Then, it goes into the water inlet valve. There's almost no give in this tube as it comes through that insulated hole. How can I replace this water line/fix this problem? Thanks, Tom

1 Answer

Tr, The tube that you are referring to would be the line that goes to the water tank and if there is no slack the water tank would need to be replaced. The part number for the water tank is WR17X11440.
