Questions & Answers

For Ge Start Relay (Part Number: OEM18102921)

1 Answer

Frank, you'll need to check the WR17X12592 damper and duct assembly, it's probably stuck open or the door has dislodged and too much cold air is being allowed to enter the refrigerator, and causing the food to freeze.

Joe, First thing to check or replace is the cold control WR9X442. When the control is turned to the "OFF" position, It should eliminate the power to the timer and compressor and the compressor should stop running. The warmer than average freezer temp. (24 dgrs.F) could be due to an air flow issue, or a leak at the refrigerator and/or freezer door. Check to make sure the damper and air flow controls are set properly, and that there are no articles hanging over the sides or ends of the shelves, or against the walls.

Jeff T for Model Number GTH22SHSARSS

My fridge and freezer is warm no matter what setting its on. I cleaned the condenser coil. Plug in the wall outlet. I didn't hear the click sound from the compressor, the fan is running. After a while, the compressor is getting very warm but not hot to touch. I can feel the vibration on the compressor but cant tell if its from the fan or on its own. After few hour run, its seem cooling ok. What worry me is when I check the relay current draw they are .84 and .69 amp ALL the time until fan stop. The resistance of the Three pins are 5. something, 7. something and 7. something. I did this serval times. It is the same results. The longest time I have the box plug in is 14 hrs. seem it is working. Is the RELAY need to replace ?

1 Answer

Jeff, The most likely issue with the units compressor not running would be an issue with the start relay not engaging the compressor.

Julie, Unfortunately there is not a reset for the main control board and based on the issue it does sound like the main control board would be the issue with the unit. The part number for the control board is WR55X10942C.

Hello Kogi, Changing the relay will most likely not help matters in this instances since it sounds like you have a shorted winding in the compressor.

Hello Rich, This does sound like possibly a bad start relay WR07X10055. If replacing the start relay doesn't correct the issue, the compressor has most likely locked and will require replacement by a technician authorized to handle Freon.

Buzz for Model Number GXCF05D

I have a GE water cooler. The Model number I provided is similar but may not be exact. This water cooler has a heat and cool option for the water. The cooling option has stopped working. I took apart unit and saw that the compressor wasn't starting. It was trying to but the overload kept shutting it off. I thought it might be the motor starter relay 8EA403. I bugged out the starter relay and it was about 5 ohms between contacts. Took cover off and the PTC pill seems intact. I had a new overload part so tried it and it did same thing. I'm guessing the starter relay is bad but given the PTC pill and contacts seem ok I'm only guessing. Windings on compressor seem fine and no shorts to GND. Can you tell me if you have a compatible starter relay that would work in place of 8EA403?
