Bob February 25, 2015 for Model Number GSS23QGTAWW My Model GSS23QGTAWW refrigerator was freezing food in the fresh food section. Following the do it yourself stories, I replaced the Refrigerator Damper Assembly assuming that was the problem. When I removed it I found that the door didn’t appear to be broken as I expected. The replacement Assembly didn’t solve the problem. The fresh food side is still staying around 27-28 degrees. So next was to replace the 2 thermistors in the fresh food side. I found one of them to appear faulty with a rounded head and black bottom. Yes! This must be the problem. Nope. The temperature is still holding around 27-28 degrees. Whats next? Is it possible that the replacement damper assembly is faulty? Or is there something else that I am overlooking?
1 Answer Bob, With the unit getting to 27 to 28 degrees you will want to test the thermistors at the main control board to make sure that you are getting the proper resistance. The resistance at that temp should be around 18K ohms. If the thermistors check ok then the issue will most likely be that the control board is not reading the thermistor resistance properly and control would need to be replaced. Read More...
Thomas January 07, 2015 for Model Number DSS25MSSE I have a GE Adora Refrigerator (DSS25MSSE) that is freezing at the bottom on both sides but NOT getting cool enough at the top. Which damper system is the problem.
1 Answer Hello Thomas, This is an air flow problem. Make sure the Freezer evaporator fan motor WR60X10307 is running and is up to speed. If you can stop it and it will not start or start up to speed without bumping the fan blade, the motor has failed. If it is operating normally you probably have a defrost issue which in indicated by a frost build-up on the rear wall of the freezer. The most common issue in this case is the heating element WR51X10055. Read More...
Dan H January 01, 2015 for Model Number PSI23MGNABB Turbocool light stays on even when turbocool feature is selected off. Also have a noisy damper fan motor that will need to be replaced, but not sure if the two are related. Thanks for any assistance!
1 Answer Dan, These issues would be 2 different things. The keypad for the display would be the most likely cause for this issue. Sounds like the button may be stuck. Read More...
Doug December 29, 2014 for Model Number 10656532400 Refrigerator side not cooling could it be a diffuser or what is the problem?
1 Answer Doug, It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Dave December 15, 2014 for Model Number GSS25XSQASS Got your replacement damper Assembly for this unit and the axle fan within is more than twice a loud as the one in the unit I replaced. Can I exchange the part.

1 Answer Hello Scott. You will need to check the defrost heater WR51X10042, thermostat WR50X10068, thermistor WR55X10025, and the main board WR55X10942C. Either can cause the unit not to defrost. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Keshav August 16, 2014 for Model Number ZFSB26DNASS I have a GE Monogram refrigerator. It has started making a rattling sound every 15 to 45 minutes. Do you think damper assembly (WR49X10091) is the problem? If so, what is the step by step procedure to install it. Thanks
1 Answer Hello Keshav, You actually need to pull the unit out and check the fan blade and motor on the condenser fan. I have seen many times that the bearings in the motor are failing and will set up a "harmonic vibration". If the sound is coming from the inside, you need to determine if it is coming from the top of the fresh food side, (damper assembly), or behind the back panel in the freezer section, (evaporator fan/blade issue with possible frost accumulation). This should help in determining where to look for the problem. Read More...
Lucas July 05, 2014 for Model Number PCF23NGTDBB Just curious - how does a damper door break when the refrigerator has been sitting in the same place for 8 years? Does the cold temperature cause the hinge to eventually crack? Your site is outstanding, unlike this refrigerator! I've already replaced the motherboard, need to replace light switch, and the thermistors will be next. Thank you for all the great information!
1 Answer Hello Lucas. Thank you for the compliment. As for the damper, over time the plastic can become brittle and when it does, it breaks. Most of the time, there is an icing issue in the damper and the ice build up causes it to break. This can be due to a faulty fan motor, leak around the door seals or fountain, or a bad sensor.
