The 14 Cube Ice Maker is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. This ice maker is responsible for automatically producing batches of cube ice on demand to keep extra ice readily available in the freezer.

Causes of a bad ice maker can include failures from usage over time, clogged lines preventing proper water flow, or impaired mechanical components.

Symptoms of a bad ice maker include:

  • Reduced or no ice production at all
  • Water buildup or overflowing due to malfunctioning fill valves
  • Grinding or crunching noises from impaired mechanical parts
  • Error codes or fault messages for ice production issues

This OEM LG replacement is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore refrigerator models.

Questions & Answers

For Lg Icemaker (14 Cube) (Part Number: OEM17027868)

Phil, unfortunately, the ice cube size is not adjustable on this type of ice maker due to how it operates. After 60 minutes of water sitting in the tray, the tray will tilt to allow the most airflow to directly contact the freezing cubes to allow for the most exposure possible to the cold air.

Randy, It will only be one of two possibilities, either the ice maker is overfilling or the water valve is not sealing good when it finishes cycling. You can always disconnect the water tube in the upper back wall of the unit where the water enters your freezer compartment on the back of the unit and cycle the ice maker and use a cup to let the water flow and see if it stops flowing when voltage is no longer present.

Jacki, the ice maker AEQ73110205 is not available as separate components of the entire assembly. The only way to get one part of it is by getting the entire assembly as this is the only way the manufacturer supplies it.

Eddie, This is a flex tray icemaker and would not have a heater to heat the ice. For this issue the icemaker would need to be replaced.

My refrigerator was bought in 2014. In 2016 the icemaker stopped making ice. The tech guy came, tried the test button and it did not respond, so he unplugged the unit, plugged it again, and it started working again. Six to eight months later, it stopped again. I followed the same steps I’d saw, and restarted the unit disconnecting it and reconnecting it back. I observed this procedure worked only if I took the icemaker off the fridge for several hours. By doing this, I’ve been able to making it work again several times during some weeks everytime. I’ve been doing this procedure for the last 6 months, but is annoying and for sure, I shouldn’t need to do it. What could be the problem?

1 Answer

Juan, This issue will most likely be caused by a faulty main icemaker on the unit.

Mindy, check the temperature of the freezer compartment, you should be getting 0-5 degrees, this is the range that will ensure a consistent ice harvest every 1-2 hours. Higher temperatures in the freezer will slow down ice production.

Cary, It is very possible the ice tray could be damaged or cracked and not twisting to dump the ice.You will need to verify the wire connector from your ice maker to see if its a 6 wire or 3 wire.I'm sure there are videos for removal on the internet to help.Paer # AEQ73110205 is the 6 wire and part # AEQ73110203 is the 3 wire.

Ice Maker stopped dumping ice. Replaced the unit and still not dumping ice. Had service technician come out and said the new ice maker was defective and everything else was good. Ordered and installed the 2nd new unit and still not dumping ice. What are the odds that both of the 2 replacement units are bad? Should I try a 3rd new unit or is there something else that could be wrong (controller board)? Very frustrating and expensive and still no dumping ice. Any insight would be appreciated. Original and replacement units were AEQ73110205.

1 Answer

Steve, It is highly unlikely that 2 icemakers would come in faulty. If the icemaker is filling with water but not dumping the ice then this will most likely be an issue with the control board on the unit.

This is a french door LG. Ice clumps in the bin, like it's melting. We are emptying it into the freezer almost daily. Both refrigerator and freezer temperature seem fine. From what I can tell, it's not overfilling--I've replaced many water inlet valves and this doesn't seem to have those symptoms. I'll check it every 6-12 hours and I just don't see any excess water. Running a manual reset seems OK too. Is the next step to replace the entire assembly, or is there something cheaper I should try. Thanks for your thoughts!

1 Answer

Todd, You will want to check to make sure that the ice door is closing all the way as this would be the most likely cause for this issue. Air migration into the ice compartment. If the door is closing all the way then check for a deteriorating ice mold and if there is deterioration of the mold then you would need to replace the icemaker.
