Devin December 05, 2019 for Model Number LG TROMM Dryer DLG8388NM Are both valves equal? I found contradicting documentation in the service manual on which is valve 1 & valve 2. It says valve 1 is supposed to open and remain open while valve 2 is only supposed to open after ignition. We have a complaint that you smell gas when it starts up outside where the dryer vents to. It might just be designed this way because valve 1 opens with the fan running before the igniter is lit. I've tried swapping the wires to the 2 valves, and it seems to work exactly the same, which is surprising. So do both valves work independently and deliver the same amount? Are there specs for the valves somewhere?
1 Answer Devin, The gas valve is a two-stage valve. When the ignition sequence begins, the igniter is turned on and valve one opens. When the igniter reaches 370°F (188°C), the igniter is turned off and valve two is opened. If the flame detector does not detect ignition, valve two is closed and the process is restarted. If ignition occurs as planned, the drying cycle will operate. It is possible you may have a weak igniter and no ignition on the first or second try. That would explain the gas smell outside. Jack November 08, 2019 for Model Number DLG1320W Currently replacing the gas valve assembly but as I'm taking the dryer apart the wires are opposite what is in the video. The wires on top the 2 red wires are to the back not the front and the front wires the red wire is on the bottom. Is this wrong? should I replace them as they are or put them back the opposite? Could that have been the problem with the dryer? Thanks for your assistance
1 Answer Jack, it is recommended to place the wiring as the manufacturer had. The video used for the part replacement is of a model similar to design but is used as a reference in part replacement rather than actual wiring. Read More...
Aniza L November 02, 2019 for Model Number DLG2051W Hi, my dryer starts and heats up just fine, but then stops heating hot air after 5 minutes. I heard it the set of gas coils that need to be replaced. Do I need to substitute the whole gas valve or can I just substitute the coils?
Peter D. September 05, 2019 for Model Number dlg3788w You answered my question that I should replace the gas valve. Would that be the only cause? You said it would not be the flame sensor or the igniter (even though it never flames up after the first time). Would you recommend changing either of those parts?
1 Answer Hello Peter, As stated previously, the flame sensor can sometimes cause this issue but it is not common for this to be the case. Most of the time the cause is that one of the gas valves in the valve assembly 5221EL2002A is not staying open. Since the flame does ignite for the first cycle, this practically eliminates the flame sensor. This does not eliminate the gas valve since it requires all three of the valves in this assembly to properly function for the flame to ignite again once it has cycled off the first time. Read More...
Dennis S July 05, 2019 for Model Number DLGX3701V Gas dryer Just took delivery of the LG dryer. Needed to convert to LP gas. Got the control valve out, replaced the orifice, and started to close the white valve per instructions when the while plastic valve snapped. Barely put any pressure on it. Can this part be replaced or do you have to replace the entire valve assembly? Also, how do you know if the valve is closed all the way as the conversion instructions tell you to do? Is the lock nut on the white plastic valve the closure limit or do you need to remove the lock nut to get fuel closure? thanks.
1 Answer Hello Dennis, you would need to replace the gas valve assembly at this point, part 5221EL2002A, for LP gas supply the white screw on the pressure regulator is turned clockwise till the locknut just bottoms out and the Nat gas orifice is changed to the LP gas orifice. Read More...
Francesco June 28, 2019 for Model Number 11078632700 When i turn on the drier i see the igniter glowing i hear the click of the gas valve opening gas comes out but does not ignite. i open the drier there is strong smell of gas. I already replaced the gas valve solenoids but no success. Initially this was happening sometimes it would ignite sometimes it did not. now it never ignites. Thank you for your help FT
1 Answer Francesco, you may want to test the ignitor [279311] for proper resistance. The resistance of the ignitor should be between 50 to 500 ohms. It is possible that the ignitor is heating up just enough to open the flame sensor and let the coils activate, but not enough to where it doesn't cool down too much to ignite the gas. Read More...
Juan February 10, 2019 for Model Number Dlg5966w I have a problem with my LG Tromm Gas dryer. Everything began with a cable on the board, it was touching the drum and the protective coating came off and caused the dryer to stop working. I found the problem and replaced the cable again and replaced the thermostat tube and sensor flame. The gas valve is not opening for when the igniter is glowing. My question is what would cause the gas valve to not work, the solenoids read 1.8 so far but no flame. Can you tell me what happened.
1 Answer Juan, This issue sounds likely that the gas coils may be faulty and would need to replace the gas valve on the unit. Read More...
C Carroll January 13, 2019 for Model Number DLGX3701W I replaced the NG orifice with the LP orifice and tightened down the white plastic screw down to the locknut as per instructions. But I have the load roar the same as another questioner here. You replied to them: "On the regulator there is a cap that you will need to make sure that it is set to LP gas and if it is not then it will cause the noise the unit is having." Isn't this cap the white plastic screw that we tightened? If not, can you explain more, as I can't find a cap.
1 Answer C. Carrol, You will want to try to adjust the white cap just a little at a time to stop the roaring noise. Try going in a little first then if that does not correct then try backing it out some. Read More...
Scott December 05, 2018 for Model Number DLGX7188RM My gas dryer produces heat and dries clothes. The issue I'm experiencing is a fairly strong natural gas smell coming from the exhaust vent, starting about midway through the whole cycle. Is this valve assembly the thing to replace? I don't understand how I can have heat AND a natural gas smell. Not sure if they are actually occurring at the same time, but my clothes do turn out dry.
1 Answer Scott, This issue would most likely be caused by a gas burner valve assembly which is part number 5221EL2002A. Read More...
Paul M March 20, 2018 for Model Number Dlg1502 Just did the LP conversion on my brand new LG dryer. Was real easy. The problem is the burner is real loud. The white plastic screw is down to the lock nut and the orifus was replaced with the lp. Doesn’t seam it should be this loud?? Nature of the LP beast??? Or is there a way to dial it down? Unfortunately i cant see any way to run the dryer and view flame quality on this model?
1 Answer Paul, On the regulator there is a cap that you will need to make sure that it is set to LP gas and if it is not then it will cause the noise the unit is having. Read More...
