For Samsung Refrigerator Defrost Thermostat (Part Number: OEM12408480)

1 Answer

Nathan, If the unit is not going through the defrost and the sensor is good then this will be a faulty main control board.

Kathy B, Thanks for the question!!! This is a common issue caused by a clogged defrost drain. You will need to defrost the unit and clean the drain line. Samsung does have a kit for repairing this, it is part number DA82-01415A.

Sam, it would be recommended that the filter HAFCU1/XAA is replaced if it is older than 6 months as a clogged filter can cause water to not dispense. If the filter is newer, the next step would be to identify if the water valve DA74-40150H receives 120VAC when the dispenser is pressed. If it does, and there is not a frozen line anywhere, then the valve has failed. If it does not receive voltage, the dispenser switch 3405-001117 would need to be tested for continuity (after unplugging the refrigerator power cord) while being pressed. If it does not have continuity, then it has failed and would need to be replaced.

Sal, based on what you have told me, I believe you have a sealed system problem. You may be low on freon or have a inefficient compressor.

Patricia, If the unit does not have an icemaker in it you would want to first install an icemaker. The icemaker being out of the unit can cause other issues with the unit and will cause errors to occur.

I have a samsung RS265LABP refrigerator. We noticed last week that our refrigerator was getting warm and upon checking noticed things were also unthawing in our freezer. We disconnected the refrigerator for 24 hours and restarted it. Our reezer and refrigerator both got cold and stayed that way up through the following day. We placed oufer food back in the refrigerator and within several hours noticed that the ice in our bin was starting to thaw. The freezer temp was raising as well as the refrigerator temp. We have tested both the sensors inside the refrigerator and freezer and both appear to be working. Both fans inside the refrigerator are coming on as well. We put the freezer and refrigerator on quick cool and quick freeze. The temperature got colder in both but the freezer never reached freezing and the temperature started blinking -6. We have unplugged it again and it has been unplugged for 40 hours now. What could be causing everything to work for short time frames and stop working altogether? what should we check now? Thanks

Hello Melanie. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the main control board is bad and will need to be replaced. Thank you.

Christy for Model Number rf28hfedtsr/aa samsung refrigerator french door

We have a couple problems. The icemaker, when you take the bucket out, has ice on the top and bottom and in the back about everyday. We have defrosted several times. Also, the ice isn't completely going down the dispenser chute, It's slushy, then stays in the chute until it drips out the dispenser and down to the floor. I have to constantly wipe up water from it. We had a repairmen here. He thought it was the mother board, got a new one, still doing the same thing. The temperature in fresh food compartment is kind of inconsistent, have it set at 34°F but it is usually about 38°F inside. Tired of this constant dripping and freezing over problem.

1 Answer

Hello Christy, The frost and dripping is room humidity getting into the unit. You will need to check the door seals and check for proper door closure. The ice door can sometimes contribute but most of the time when the ice door or a freezer door has an air leak, the moisture will condense where it will freeze and never makes it to the fresh food compartment where it can form water droplets.

Hello Gary, The defrost thermostat should read continuity with no resistance when below 20°F and the defrost heater element will read either 60O if in the freezer section or 120O if in the fresh food compartment. The main board part number is DA41-00695A.

Self-Learner for Model Number Samsung model: RS2530BSH/XAA

My fridge and freezer stop cooling. Have no problem with the compressor, fans condenser and evaporator motor, I wonder what might go wrong? My defrost thermostat sensor still in its pinkish e-sealed plastic and hung loose alongside the evaporator assembly. Only the temperature sensor is connected directly to the evatorator coil. Is it correct? I also discovered a crack in the freeze wall next to the evaporator assembly. What product should I use to seal the crack? Thank you for your help.

1 Answer

Self learner, For the crack that is in the wall next to the evaporator the part number that you would want to get to try to repair this is 8201700. As for the no cooling issue you will want to check to make sure that the unit is defrosting. If it is not then test the sensors for resistance. If the sensors check open for no resistance then the sensor is faulty.
