The Bearing and Tub Seal Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It includes high-quality bearings and a tub seal designed to ensure smooth operation and prevent water leaks. The bearings allow the tub to spin freely and quietly, while the seal protects the bearings from water and detergent, extending their life and the overall efficiency of the washing machine.

Causes of failure for these components can vary but often include water infiltration that leads to rust and deterioration of the bearings, or wear and tear from heavy or unbalanced loads that put additional stress on the seal and bearings.

Symptoms of a bad bearing and tub seal kit include:

  • Noisy operation, especially during the spin cycle
  • Water leaking from the bottom of the washer
  • The washing machine tub struggling to spin or not spinning at all

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

1 Answer

Hello Leslie, no lube is needed in either case, any lube would quickly wear off and possibly stain the clothes being laundered.

I've pressed the bearings in, all seemed to go smoothly. However, the shaft doesn't seem to go low enough. I've pressed the bearings several times and I still do not have enough threads on the bottom of the machine to put the shaft nut on properly with threads showing after it's tight. This is also witnessed by the drive hub/driven hub not sitting low enough to sit flush against the tub when re-assembled. I have confirmed that the collar on the shaft is sitting flush against the top bearing. Is my spacer potentially offset causing the top bearing to not seat fully? The bottom bearing seems to be seated appropriately.

1 Answer

Eric, the top bearing should be recessed into the tub which would allow the driveshaft to seat down fully for the threads to be exposed. If the top bearing is not recessed down, it is possible that the bearing sat crooked into the tub and would need to be corrected.

Just completed bearing replacement and have a slight worry. Once all back together I gave the impeller a slight nudge. It rotates smoothly almost 360 degrees but feels like the rotor is rubbing someplace on the stator. Took the rotor off and tried multiple times to reposition it but always get a very light rub or scuffing at some point. Just a degree or two long. Loosened and re-tightened the stator and don't see any damage to stator or rotor. I didn't drop anything. But I did break two 2x4 boards trying to free the basket with the jack. Does the rotor have an index mark for installing?

1 Answer

Hello RachelAnne, the outer tub is the structural component for the alignment of the drive shaft bearings and the shaft itself, it may be slightly warped at this point, it is part W10193886, there is no index point needed for installing the rotor.
