The Drive Clutch Kit is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washing machines. As an integral transmission component, it includes the clutch that engages the drive motor to rotate the central agitator or impeller.

Causes of a bad clutch kit include worn parts that have aged from repeated use. Signs include slipping, grinding, or clicking noises from the transmission area.

Symptoms of a faulty clutch kit are:

  • The washer tub failing to turn or agitate clothes during wash cycles
  • Delayed starts or intermittent rotation
  • Vibration or shaking sensed from the frontloader or toploader

This OEM replacement is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Scott, You will want to get the tech sheet from inside the unit and put the unit into service diagnostics. Go to the error code recall section and see if there are any stored error codes. The error will guide you to what may be wrong with the unit.

Larry, With the issue of the shift actuator having been replaced 2 times, it will most likely be an issue with the control board causing this issue.

Hello Poppy, if the tub suspension rods are in place correctly then check the clothes basket (inner tub) is centered on the hub. Try rotating the basket with the lid open and see if it wobbles.

Kirk, While in the service diagnostics, go into the error code mode and see if there are any error codes. This issue sounds likely that the shift actuator may be the issue but would suggest checking error codes before changing anything.

Phil, When the actuator moves the splutch from a agitate to a spin, make sure it moves the pulley all the way till it's locked in the correct position. The actuator might not have moved the pulley enough to lock the plastic teeth together causing it to strip out. W10913953

Alysha for Model Number mvwx655dw0

We have a Maytag bravos MCT and it will not agitate the tub it’s self will spin just fine but will not agitate on wash cycle so the clothes don’t come clean. And also everything will work properly if there’s nothing in the washer at all it will spin, agitate etc but as soon as we put clothes in there and it makes it to the wash cycle it will spin but will not agitate the clothes just sit there and don’t move... We would like to fix the problem but don’t know where to start..

Alysha, It would be recommended to get the tech sheet from inside the cabinet of the unit and put the unit into a service diagnostic mode to see if there are any stored error codes. These codes will tell you what to test. This issue sounds like it could be a shift actuator that is faulty but use the error codes to determine this.

Chris, It sounds likely that either the splutch cam kit is faulty and will need to be replaced or the shift actuator may be the issue. You can put the unit into a service diagnostic and see if there are any stored error codes to see if there is a shift actuator error.

Hello Curtis, if the belt was slipping it should show heat damage on the inner side. You may want to run the diagnostic service cycle to check for any fault codes and also it allows separate testing of the motor functions. The tech sheet is located in a plastic bag attached near the top inside of the front cabinet panel.

Robert, It is possible the actuator is not fully engaging the splutch to lock into spin. This failure would leave an error code. The tech sheet is located under the top in the front left upper area. Read the instructions on how to put the unit into service mode and recall the error codes. That is the best starting point for you.
