The Drive Clutch Kit is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washing machines. As an integral transmission component, it includes the clutch that engages the drive motor to rotate the central agitator or impeller.

Causes of a bad clutch kit include worn parts that have aged from repeated use. Signs include slipping, grinding, or clicking noises from the transmission area.

Symptoms of a faulty clutch kit are:

  • The washer tub failing to turn or agitate clothes during wash cycles
  • Delayed starts or intermittent rotation
  • Vibration or shaking sensed from the frontloader or toploader

This OEM replacement is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Jerry, if replacing the latch did not correct the problem and the lid strike is in position then the control board may be faulty, it is part W10484689.

Donald, The only thing that would cause a leak around this area will be a seal around the gearcase that would cause this issue. The seal can only be gotten by replacing the gearcase.

Zeak, Normally this will occur when the unit is being overloaded or the bolt holding the splutch is backing off. Use some blue Loctite on the threads to keep the nut in place.

Mike, the clutch W10721967 would need to be inspected for any broken sections that may not allow it to shift properly. If there is not a broken section and the shift actuator has not slipped from the clutch arm, the shift actuator W10913953 would be the most likely cause of failure.

David, Based on the information provided I would start by checking the lower pulley and the splutch assembly for the noise in question.

Robert, if there is not an error code that appears when using the diagnostic test mode error retrieval, the hub kit W10528947 and belt WPW10006384 would need to be inspected for any damage or excessive wear. The spin basket would need to be rotated by hand to identify if it is able to spin freely. If it can, the next step would be testing the motor W11283592 windings for resistance and they should measure 5-9.5 Ohms of resistance. If the motor fails, it would need to be replaced. If it does not fail, it is likely the speed sensor on the shift actuator W10913953 is not operating properly.

Deucecoupe for Model Number WTW4900BW0

I bot clutch W10721967, Checking stuff while changing it. The old gears look pretty good. The outer gear & spline turns the basket when the actiuator "shifts" I see that. If I grab the outer gear & turn it, the basket turns too, ok. But if I twist the outer gear QUICKLY, the basket slips first, maybe chatters a little, then the basket turns the gear. Seems this is happening inside the transmission. Is this normal? IE is there another "clutch" inside the transmission that can "slip" a little? Symptoms were, washer works but when it tries to spin, it makes a buzz/bump/zip noise, basket lurches & starts to spin but then it gives up.

JoAnn, Based on the information provided I would run the diagnostic test using the tech sheet packaged with your machine to determine if you have a clutch issue or possibly an actuator issue. Running the diagnostics should determine any error codes and the tech sheet will give you the issue and solution based on the error code.
