The Ice Level Control Board is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It is an electronic component responsible for monitoring and regulating ice production in the icemaker. The board works with sensors to detect the level of ice in the bucket and control the icemaker accordingly. It plays a vital role in ensuring a consistent ice supply.

Symptoms of a bad control board include:

  • Irregular or inconsistent ice production
  • The icemaker failing to turn on at all
  • Error codes displayed related to the icemaker
  • Sensors providing inaccurate readings to the control board

Causes of a bad control board can include failure over time due to normal wear and tear, exposure to moisture or temperature fluctuations, or damage due to electrical surges.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

For Whirlpool Ice Level Control Board (Part Number: OEM21616467)

Charles F for Model Number GD2SHAXKT01

Was having problems with ice maker. Stopped making ice. I replaced the ice level control board and the water inlet valve. It started making ice, but cubes are too big acct. too much water and it runs over some. I did not get the level control valve from you all. Does this level control board control the amount of water coming in ? I didn't want too spend a lot of money acct. it's old and I got board off Amazon that's problem my mistake. If you think this is the problem, the I will order it from you all. Thank you.

Charles F. Thank you for your question. The ice level board will not have anything to do with the water level coming into the icemaker. This would be within the icemaker itself. If the motor module is hanging up it would cause the water fill to be off.

I noticed last week that my ice maker was not making ice. I went on your site and looked up possible reasons. Ice maker power control seems to be working correctly. I was not sure if it was the inlet valve so I ordered one from your site. It arrived the next day and I replaced it this morning 4/23. Ice maker is still not working. Will it work right away or does it need to cycle a few times to get water to the ice maker. The water dispenser works fine.

Jerry, if the freezer is reaching proper temperature, the ice maker would need to be checked for 120VAC when the optics sensors have a clear line of sight between each other. If there is 120VAC, the fill tube above the ice maker would need to be checked to identify if it is blocked up. If it is, it would need to be cleared. If it is not, the ice maker would need 24 hours to verify if it makes ice. If not, then the ice maker WPW10190961 would be the likely cause of failure.

Kari, You will want to test to see if there is 12 vdc getting to the display board and if there is but will not light up then this will be a dispenser control board issue. If there is not then this will be a faulty main control board.

Wondering if I need to replace my inlet valve on Kenmore fridge? The icemaker is filled with unharvested ice. If the inlet valve was leaking and freezing the line, I would have thought what I would see is an empty icemaker because it would have harvested but then then wouldn't fill again? The icemaker and optics boards are new and functioning properly. They made a few batches, filled with water, but has stopped harvesting. Doesn't appear stuck, rakes are in proper position, optics blinking twice, bin is not full, freezer is cold.

Mark, if the ice in the bucket is not freeing into a block, the dispenser switch WP2162361 would need to be tested for continuity after unplugging the appliance power cord and activating the switch. If there is not continuity, the switch would need to be replaced. If there is continuity, the most likely cause of failure would be the auger motor W10822635.

Mike, Start with checking to make sure the freezer temperature maintains 0° - to 8°f. You could have a slight cooling and/or defrost-type issue causing the ice maker to not reach the harvest temperature.

Steve, Open the freezer door and tape the light switch closed. Press in the flapper on your ice maker optics that's blinking a red light. Making sure that the beam from one side to the other is not blocked, then observe the light. If it is not solid then replace the optics. W11629974

Thane for Model Number 10651562102

-A week ago my Ice maker overflowed water into the freezer and onto the floor. I cleaned it up and switched the ice maker off. -When I restarted the Ice maker it made a little ice then quit permanently. -The are no lights on either optical board. I'm considering replacing them both but it seems odd that they would both fail at the same time and right after an overflow event. -I'm a bit concerned about replacing the optical boards and then getting a flood again. What controls the water fill level ? Kenmore model 10651562102 Thanks for the help, T

1 Answer

Thane, the fill level of the ice maker would be controlled by the ice maker module W10190935 itself. If the ice maker water valve is receiving 120VAC during the overfill failure, the module would be the cause of failure. If water got into one of the optics boards, it can cause the other to fail as well.
