Hello Bob, If the voltage is still being supplied to the valves, the switch (AP3131893) or the bracket (AP2988571) is most likely the issue. You should check the wiring harness where it goes into the door hinge first to make sure there are no shorts in the harness.

Mario, If you are having a defrost system failure then you will need to remove the rear cover in the freezer compartment to test the heater and thermostat. If either do not have continuity then it would need to be replaced. If they both have continuity then you would need to replace the defrost control.

Janie, If you are developing frost around the door area then you would want to check the door seal to make sure that it is sealing tightly. You will also want to check your supply and return air ducts to make sure that they are not clogged with ice. This can happen if there is an air leak around the door seal.

Al, We do not have instructions that we can send on replacing the control board. It is not difficult. To replace you will open refrigerator door and remove the knobs for the temp control. Once removed you will use a flat blade under the corner of the front panel to get it started on release. Once started you just pull out on it and it will pop loose. There are 2 screws 1/4" hex head that you will remove on the front and 2 that attach control panel to the ceiling. Once removed disconnect the connector that is on the top of the refrigerator. This will give you a little more room. There are 2 screws on the bottom of the control panel that are phillips head that you will remove. Once removed you can disconnect wires fromthe control board and install new one in reverse.

John for Model Number KSRD22FTST03

I have a KitchenAid side by side that will not defrost. I've tested the defrost thermostat (W10225581) and it reads closed when cold and open when warm. Also tested the heater element and it was under 100 ohms. I believe it to be the control board (W10366604). Something else to note is the water filter indicator light flashes green and will not reset. When the defrost thermostat is closed it flashes faster that when it is open. Is this an error code or some kind or just the control board shorting out?

Hello John, The Adaptive defrost control board WPW10366605 will need to be replaced due to the defrost issue. The water filter light flashing is also an indicator that the board has failed. Once new board is in then the light will work as normal.

Hello Marie, You will want to look in the freezer compartment and remove the rear cover of the freezer. Check to see if the evaporator coil is impacted by frost. If it is then you will want to do a continuity check on the defrost heater and thermostat. If either does not have continuity then replace that part. If they both have continuity then you would need to replace the Defrost control board. If the coils are not impacted then you would want to check the return duct to make sure that it is not clogged with ice. This is located on the left wall of refrigerator section about midway down.

Hello Gary, You would want to check the start relay on the side of the compressor. When you pull the relay off if it rattles then you need a new relay WPW10189190. If it does not rattle then you would want to do an amp draw on the red or blue wire on the relay wire. It should be red but some are blue. If your amp draw is more than 8.5 then the compressor has failed and you will need new compressor W10233961.
