Manufacturer Part Number: WP2307037

This replacement part is an electronic control board. It is manufactured by Whirlpool and is responsible for monitoring and controlling the functions in a refrigerator. It ensures that the compressor turns on at the appropriate time, handles freezer defrosting, and much more. It can be damaged by exposure to moisture and extreme temperatures. If the control board has failed, the refrigerator most likely will not operate at all. In some cases, users may notice intermittent operation, but the board should still be replaced as soon as possible. To replace the board, first unplug the refrigerator. Always wear gloves when servicing the refrigerator. This is a genuine OEM part and it is sold individually. It fits Whirlpool, Kenmore, Amana, and Roper branded refrigerators.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Control Board (Part Number: OEM18021552)

K1VFI, First check the wiring at the lower freezer door hinge for any damage or lose connections. Then with a multimeter check for 120 VAC at the dispenser core control board P1 connector across the black and white wires. Then check for 8-12 VDC across the P6 connector pin 1 red/yellow and pin 3 black/yellow wires. If the voltages are present the dispenser core control board is at fault and needs to be replaced.

Hello Donald, This is most likely the control board WP2307037 but can be the control box button W10175591. I'm sorry but this part W10175591 has been discontinued by the manufacturer and no satisfactory substitutions have been provided. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

John, the freezer door switch may need to be inspected to identify if it is being fully engaged by the door. With the door open, the door switch will need to be taped fully down and the dispenser inspected to see if it will accept any input. If this allows the dispenser functions to operate, the switch pad WP2177331 would be needed to correct the issue. If taping the door switch down does not correct the problem, the next step would be to test the door switch (with the refrigerator unplugged) for continuity. With the door switch W11396033 pressed in, there should be continuity from the blue/yellow tracer wire terminal to the light blue/black tracer wire terminal.

Judith for Model Number GC5SHEXNS03

This is a Designer Fit Whirlpool Refrigerator Side by Side style. I have had two repairman since February work on this Refrigerator. First repairman replaced electronic control board as he said the original had burnt out. He finally got the part in April of 2020. By end of month the refrigerator stopped working properly again. Here's what happens: the whole refrigerator goes on and off every 3 or 4 seconds; freezer temperature never works; the refrigerator temperature keeps going up or sometimes it goes down; the black rubber around the refrigerator sometimes gets burning hot. The second repairman from a different company was very thorough inspecting every part and cleaning coils in addition. He then told me to leave refrigerator on for 24 hours to see if it would work properly. I did that and the result was the same problem - nothing changed. He came back and re-inspected the whole thing again and said since the prior repair company replaced the board and he did everything he could that the refrigerator is a safety hazard and should be replaced. He unplugged it for safety reasons. Is there anything else I can do? What else can cause all these problems? I look forward to hearing from you and I thank you in advance for your reply. BTW, I am trying to sell this house and now I am in a quandary as to whether I should just buy a new one. Sincerely, Judith 2heyjudy@gmail.com

Hello Judith, what you are describing is the main control board starting to fail, it will try to run then stop then repeat erratically, it can also fail to power the condenser fan motor and the front edge of the center mullion will go warm to hot, also may not power the freezer evap fan motor and there will be no airflow for cooling. The main control board part (W102194630 is listed as no longer available, however, the manufacturer has a service replacement control board kit part (W10823804) W10823804. This control board is located under the ref cabinet and is accessed from the rear of the cabinet. There is a user interface board (WP2307037) located in the fresh food section control panel however it is not the same as the main control board located under the ref cabinet which actually runs the ref .

John, The control board that would cause this unit would be part number W10219463. Unfortunately, the control board has been discontinued by the manufacturer with no suitable replacement available. You could try to get the board repaired by contacting Corecentricsolutions.com and see if they can rebuild the board.

Mike, the main control would need to be tested at connection P2 from pin 2 (with the red probe of a meter) to pin 3 (with the black probe of a meter) for 12VDC. If there is a continuous 12VDC while the temperature control is failing, then the temperature control WP2307037 is the most likely failure. If the voltage is not constant, then the main control W10823804.

Creolerose for Model Number Kenmmore (Whirlpool) 106.44422602 side-by-side counter depth fridge

The fan on my Kenmore/Whirlpool refrigerator is intermittently stopping and starting every few seconds, although the refrigerator is running fine. He said that since the fan was running OK, it was the controller that was the problem. After speaking with his parts people, he was told that there is a kit for this (apparently it's been a problem with this model of refrigerator). Is this the correct kit (part?) for fixing this problem, and is it very complicated to install? He indicated that the labor could be expensive because it might require that other boards or wiring harnesses be replaced. I'd rather not have to buy a new refrigerator. He quoted a price somewhere between $350 and $375, but he also said he'd never done this repair. Is it terribly complicated and likely to cause high labor charges?

Hello Rose, the symptom your ref is having is caused by a faulty main control board that is located in a housing mounted under the ref in the compressor area (not the compressor inverter board), the original control board is no longer available but the manufacturer (Whirlpool ) has a service replacement control board available, however, because this is a Kenmore ref that board is only available thru Sears by one of their service technicians. The actual board replacement procedure is simple as it is accessible under the ref once the ref is moved out of its location. There are no other boards or harnesses needed for this model, the old/new boards are just swapped.

Jeff, In the compressor area find the control board and the power coming in is a black and white wire that should have a constant power supply of 120 volts. If you find the voltage not constant or you lose your voltage when the fan turns off then your issue is in your home wiring. If you have a constant power supply here and the condenser fan keeps turning off and on then the control board is failing and that part is no longer available. You could google search the part number to perhaps find one online is the only alternative [W10219463]

Phillip, if the door switch fails in the closed position then it could cause some issues. The door switch can be tested for continuity and should read open when the door is open. However, it would be more likely that either the main control is not sending voltage to the user control, or the user control is not operating. The user control should be receiving voltage from the main control at the three wire connector going into the user control from the tan/black wire to the black/white wire.

Phillip, it is possible that the control in the fresh food section may be causing this issue. Usually a situation like this there would be a short within the control. With the unit unplugged, the control should be inspected for any visible signs of a short or a desoldered connection as this can cause noises from a control.
