The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This part is responsible for controlling the flow of water into the refrigerator's ice maker and water dispenser system. It operates by opening and closing to allow water from the household supply line to enter the refrigerator as needed.

Over time, water inlet valves can fail or become clogged with mineral deposits, especially in areas with hard water.

Symptoms of a bad Water Inlet Valve include:

  • No water being dispensed or ice being made
  • A slow or irregular flow of water from the dispenser
  • Unusual noises coming from the valve area during operation
  • Water leaking from the valve or at the connection points

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Brian, Just behind the toe grill, you should see a disconnect for the water line in the door. you should be able to check it from there.

Hello Vivian, if the water dispenser only gives water with the water filter cartridge filter removed then the filter head housing needs to be replaced. Concerning the ice maker if it not filling, manually add water to the ice maker and check after 12 hours or so, if the ice maker did not harvest and dump the cubes then check the freezer temp is below 10 deg, if so then replace the ice maker.

Check the freezer temp to see if it is too cold. You may just need to adjust the temp to correct the issue.

Bill for Model Number WRS325SDHZ01

my water dispenser has an intermittent issue when dispensing water sometimes it makes a loud noise and it starts sputtering. water starts spitting out. not a constant flow. almost like a submersible pump when it gets to the point of an empty container that you are pumping water out of. there aren't certain times or reasons. it can be once a day or 5 times a day. it makes it hard to troubleshoot! any help will be appreciated. thanks in advance Bill

1 Answer

Bill, it would be recommended that the water line at the corner of the door is disconnected and the tubing coming from the back of the refrigerator placed into a cup or a pitcher. This will allow the dispenser to be used to identify if that specific tubing will still sputter. If it does not, there may be a pinhole or partially frozen tubing W11163765 that goes through the door. If it does still sputter, there may be an issue in the water reservoir W11239665.

Hello Terry, when this problem occurs the manufacturer recommends the ice maker WPW10300022 and the dual water valve WPW10179146 be replaced as either could cause the problem and its to a future avoid flooding problem.

Gary, This issue will most likely be caused by a filter head that is faulty. The filter head has plungers that are not fully engaging and is causing the slow flow of water.

Carl for Model Number WRS322FDAM02

There was no water at all via the door or the ice maker. The filer door was broken so getting the filter in and out was not working either. I bought a new filter housing and that fixed the water supply to the door but still no ice. After the install of the new filter housing I and filter I ran a few gallons of water through the door and noticed some almost black water coming out for a bit. That cleared up but when we push the lever on the door to get water it sounds like an old steam engine chugging along. The ice tray is not filling with water but I checked the functions of the motor and it will cycle the ice tray and it sounds like it tries to open a valve to fill but no water goes into the tray. Could the chugging sound of the water and no ice be related to the valve?

1 Answer

Carl, it would be recommended that the fill tube to the ice maker is inspected for any ice blocking it up. If there is, it would need to be cleared. Another check recommended would be identifying the water pressure going to the supply valve. The water pressure recommended would be between 60 to 80 PSI, however, the tolerance is 40 to 100 PSI. Higher than 80 or lower than 60 PSI can influence the operation of a water valve.
