Ray C August 25, 2015 for Model Number KSSC36QMS01 My fridge is not cold and checked the compressor body on top and its not warm at all. Is it bad? How can I check if compressor or inverter bad? Does it has start relay?

Master Tech August 18, 2015 for Model Number W10133449 inverter You are answering that the compressor resistance readings should be different as if it is a single phase compressor. You should remember that the compressor is actually a 3 phase compressor. On 3 phase compressors the resistance readings is the same between the compressor S-R-C terminals. The inverter input is 115 v single phase but the output is 230 v 3 phase. Correct?
1 Answer Hello Master tech. Yes, the inverter runs at different levels. However, testing the compressor it's self is an ohm resistance and it should be the same across the terminals. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...

Lou June 07, 2015 for Model Number 10644322400 kenmore side by side My pin readings are all 6.5 Ohms; between terminals and compressor body there is no continuity; so no shorts in windings but between all compressor pin terminals the readings are all 6.5 ohms; are the windings failing?, or is it the inverter; how can I test the inverter box? thanks in advance,
1 Answer Lou, If all of the terminals are showing 6.5 then the windings are bad. When you test from Common to start or run there should be 6.5 and when you go from run to start it should show around 11 ohms. As for the inverter you will test for 120 vac into the inverter and test power coming out of the inverter based on what the tag says on the inverter box. Read More...
Alfred C May 11, 2015 for Model Number lgub2642lf8 My fridge stopped cooling and the service tech changed a board in the lower front of the fridge. Then the operating console board, but still no compressor. When he left I unplugged the fridge and found a board at the lower rear at the compressor called the invertor. We may have had a surge. Would this be the part that would fail? The board seem damp with an oily substance seems to be coming from the capacitors. Whats your opinion? thanks
1 Answer Alfred, With the only component on the unit that is not working is the compressor, then it would be very likely that the inverter board has failed. There should not be a oily residue on the board. Read More...
1 Answer John, Unfortunately there is no information available about a green light flashing on the inverter board for your unit. Read More...
Gary February 14, 2015 for Model Number gc5nhaxsb03 My fan keeps going on and off every and there is a chirping noise. I removed the back panel and listened for the noise. It sounded like it was coming from the inverter (definitely not the fan or compressor). Could the inverter be making the noise or could it be coming from something behind the converter (possibly the control board?) Should I replace the inverter or check something else first?
1 Answer Hello Gary, It is possible that the oscillating circuits in the inverter board W10629033 are making the chirping noise. Read More...
Jjdike February 07, 2015 for Model Number ksbs25inss00 In running the 7 point diagnostics from the control panel, everything passes but number 5, which is the compressor start. The compressor does work as the temperatures in both the freezer and refrigerator sides are correct. It seems like the compressor may just be taking longer than it is supposed to to start up. I checked the resistance at the three pins on the compressor where the power from the inverter connects to the compressor. They all read around 6 Ohms. Does this point to the inverter as possibly being bad, or some other component? Thanks.
1 Answer jjdike, The inverter would most likely be the cause for the diagnostics failing in the service mode. Keep in mind that the compressor would have been shut off and if you put the unit into that part of the diagnostics before it had a chance to cool then it could cause the fail. If the unit is cooling properly then the inverter and compressor would be good. Read More...
Steve August 26, 2014 for Model Number KSCS25INSS01 I had the intermittent fan problem causing the area between the freezer and refrigerator doors to get hot. I replaced the relay and capacitor on the control board and the fan now works perfectly. Unfortunately, before I made that repair the compressor stopped running. I am guessing that I need a new inverter as all 3 compressor windings read right at 7.3 ohms. Is it possible there is a mechanical failure with the compressor or should I move forward with replacing the inverter? Thank you in advance for your advice.
1 Answer Hello Steve. It is possible that the compressor has failed. If you replace the inverter, and the compressor still does not run, then it will need to be replaced. Read More...
Sharon August 16, 2014 for Model Number KSCS25FTMS02 Refrigerator does not cool. It makes a clicking noise and the compressor or fan tries to run but cuts off and clicks. I have replaced the inverter board and the mother board. I was looking for the starter relay - but assumed that was the inverter board. Is it? What else to check?
1 Answer Hello Sharon, You are correct that the inverter board takes the place of the start relay. If the compressor keeps cutting off when it tries to start, you will need to test the windings of the compressor at the terminals on the side of the compressor. These should read about 6.4 ohms each. If any of the windings read higher or lower or read shorted to ground, the compressor and filter/drier will need to be replaced by a Freon certified technician. Read More...
