The Auger Motor is an OEM part for Frigidaire refrigerators. This motor powers the auger in the refrigerator's ice maker unit. The auger rotates during ice-making, ejecting ice from the mold and depositing cubes into the storage bin.

Causes of a bad auger motor can include wear and tear over time from continuous use, or damage from unbalanced ice molds or debris buildup.

Symptoms of a bad auger motor include:

  • Ice maker not producing ice or producing ice inconsistently
  • Ice cubes jammed or frozen together in the storage bin
  • Loud buzzing or grinding noises coming from the ice maker area
  • Inability to eject ice properly into the storage bin

Replacing this OEM Frigidaire auger motor helps ensure consistent, reliable ice production. This replacement part is compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and Kenmore models.

Hello Andy. These are reverse threads. You can hold the shaft with pliers and unscrew the yoke from the motor. These are very tight and not easy to do.

Richter J. for Model Number GAEGHH7WAET5

This weekend the noise was extremely loud, so loud it was hard to hear the television. It comes from the ice maker and sounds like it is in the protected part where the tube from the ice maker goes into the back. It made that noise two times each day and sounded like a prop airplane taking off and maybe crashing. It also has been dripping a little from the ice maker to the bottom of the freezer. This refrigerator is not very old. We bought it at the end of 2009.

Hello Richter, When the ice maker makes this kind of noise, the gears inside it are about to clash and lock up. The ice maker needs to be replaced. The water under it can either be from contacts inside the ice maker sticking, low water pressure to the valve, or a faulty water inlet valve.

Hello Rickter. See if the noise starts after the unit has just shut off. If so, this is the freon equalizing and it is normal for the unit to make these noises. It can be very loud sometimes, and not so bad other times.

Hi Randy. What you described to me is either the ice maker thermostat not sensing the ice bin frozen part # WP627985, or the ice maker heater not getting full power from the head assy. switches part # 8201515. It also (food for thought) may be better off to replace the whole ice maker assy. part # WPW10190965. You need to consider it is calcium deposits that over time build up in the ice cups and then the ice acts harder to eject after the heat release also. Thank You.

Hi Randy. If now you are only getting intermittent water fill, possibly the water valve coils are bad part # W10408179.The ice maker commands the valve for approx. 6 sec. to allow water to flow. Make sure your fill tube is clear by twist/remove/ unhook and dry with a hair dryer. If this was the case , then the valve was needed. Thank You.

Hello Jason. If the Ice maker is good, and the fill tube is not frozen, you will need to replace the water valve W10408179. Hope this helps.

Gold, You're on the right track, Remove power to the refrigerator, remove the bin and most of the shelves, remove the four(4) screws holding the bracket to the back wall, slide the bracket out, carefully(don't damage the liner, etc.) and disconnect the wiring harness to the motor , solenoid, etc. It's sometimes easier to hold the auger motor shaft with a pair of pliers, and turn the auger yoke counterclockwise(reversed threads) until it's loose enough to turn by hand. Good Luck and Thanks

Hello Darlene. Check the size of the cubes and make sure they are correct and not sticking together. If they are good, you will need to check the temperature in the freezer and make sure it is correct. If so, make sure the parts inside the ice bucket are good and tight and nothing is broke. If the bucket is good, you may need to replace the motor WPW10317991. Hope this helps.
