This motor stator is the stationary windings for a direct-drive washer motor. Working with the rotor, it creates the magnetic field that turns the basket. Replacing a failed stator restores consistent wash and spin performance. What it does

  • Provides the fixed windings for the direct-drive motor
  • Works with the rotor to spin and tumble the basket
  • Failure can cause no spin/tumble, intermittent movement, or loud humming
  • May lead to motor/speed-related error codes and cycle shutdowns
What's included
  • 1 motor stator assembly
Install notes
  • Disconnect power before servicing; allow moving parts to stop
  • Access is typically from the rear; remove the rotor to expose the stator
  • Handle the rotor's strong magnets carefully and keep metal objects clear
  • Route and seat the wiring exactly as original; tighten mounting bolts evenly

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Motor Stator (Washer) (Part Number: OEM18063597)

1 Answer

John, If you are getting a sensor error and the sensor has been replaced then you will want to check the wiring and if the wiring is good then the issue will be the control board.

Washer does not go through spin cycle. It gets stuck around 12 minutes and sounds like its trying to spin, but keeps slipping. My tenants initially thought it showed a UL code and so I replaced the suspension rods and re-balanced the machine but that didn't work. I took off the Impeller (washplate) and noticed a couple of bent and or missing metal clips underneath. Was wondering if this could be the issue, or possibly the Hub, Basket-Driven/Driver, or my fear is this could be the Stator, Motor. Any ideas or suggestions on how to diagnose?

1 Answer

Jared, The hub would be the most likely cause for the the unit to not spin on this unit. The part number for the hub assembly will be W10820039.

Hello Pops. Look for bad bearings or something between the inner and outer tubs. Last thing is control board being bad.

1 Answer

Bob, You shouldn't need to replace the tub at all. But you do want to remove the washplate and check for an article stuck underneath it, then remove the tub and check the basket hub W10820039 for worn and damaged "teeth" This could be the " klunk" noise in the wash/agitate as well as a grinding noise in the spin cycle. If you do need or want to replace the tub bearings and seal you'll need the W10435302 seal kit and the W10447783 Installation tool.

John for Model Number Whirlpool Cabrio 8-10 years old

We have a balance issue. We get the problem with 10-12 minutes left in the cycle. I have checked the suspension rods and see no issues. Approx 6 months ago, I changed the bearings and shaft. I had a repairman look at it and he said the stator was cracked. My inspection later was there was minimal cracks around the inside of the stator. It would be an easy DIY repair for $160. Do you think this is the issue. I do not want to spend the $300+ for him to fix it when I can by a new Cabrio washer for $600.

1 Answer

Hello John. It depends on the issue with the unit. It could be the stator, but then again, it could be other things as well. We would need the model number and to know what error code your getting on the unit to help with this. Thanks.

Hello Lori. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the control board WPW10372179 is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

B for Model Number WTW6600SW2

It was leaking and loud, so I replaced the tub assembly. After putting it back together and testing, I got the F51 fault code. It spun freely manually, but when running the washer in the spin cycle, it starts for a split second and stops (this is when the error pops up). I replaced the RPS but it was doing the same thing. I replaced the RPS again and still getting the F51 fault code. The likelihood that both new RPS's were bad is slim, so I'm confident it's not the RPS. I never got this fault code before replacing the tub assembly, I'm pretty confident that I replaced the tub assembly correctly because it spins freely, manually and makes no noise. I'm at a complete loss. Please help.

1 Answer

B, You will want to check the wiring between the RPS sensor and the main control board. If the wiring got damaged then this will cause the issue that you are having. Also check the rotor and stator to make sure that there is no damage to them. If these check ok then the only other issue would be a faulty control board.
