The Suspension Rod Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This kit includes four suspension rods designed to support the washing machine's tub assembly. By absorbing vibrations and stabilizing the tub during the spin cycle, these rods play a crucial role in reducing noise and preventing the washing machine from moving excessively.

Causes of a bad Suspension Rod Kit can include normal wear and tear, overloading the washing machine, or frequent heavy cycles that put extra strain on the rods.

Symptoms of a bad Suspension Rod Kit include:

  • The washing machine is excessively noisy during the spin cycle.
  • The tub seems unbalanced or moves more than usual, even with light loads.
  • The washing machine "walks" or moves from its original position during operation.
  • Unfinished cycles or error codes indicating an unbalanced load.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Hello Joel, UL is the fault code for an unbalanced load. If the load is not adjusted and the control doesn't see the lid opened for the load re-distribution, the fault code will not reset. If the codes keeps coming up you should try running the diagnostic mode to see if there are any more codes. The procedure is laid out for you in the tech sheet which should be on the unit. It should be in a ziplock plastic bag affixed to the inside or the front of the cabinet.

Earl for Model Number WTW6300 SWD

Is there a recall on the Whirlpool WTW6300 SWD for UL code? We cannot get past the 9 minute mark when it starts banging violently. We have stopped it and rebalanced the loads so many times we're sick of it. Nothing we do makes it perform the way it's supposed to. We paid $350.00 once to have them replace some board they said was causing it. We bought it in Dec. 2006 and have had trouble with all this time. Ser. #CT3170647. If not, how can I fix it?

1 Answer

Hello Earl. We do not handle any recalls. We are a parts supplier, not the manufacturer. However, to repair the unit, you need to replace the suspension rods W10820048 on the unit.

Phil B for Model Number Maytag MTW6600TQ0

If there is anything of any weight (like one terry cloth bath robe) in the tub, around 9 minutes (spin) it goes out of balance and I get a 'ul' code. I checked the suspension rods (absolutes great video on your site) and the rods appear straight and intact. Reading other questions though, it appears that these could still be the problem and the spring tension is the issue. Is there any way to see if the spring tension is the issue before getting the replacement kit (just hate spending money on something that doesn't appear bad). Great site - thanks.

1 Answer

Hello Phil. If the unit does that, the rods are bad. If you replace them and they do not fix the issue, you can send them back. No way of testing tension in the unit.

Rick for Model Number WTW6600SW1

Hello, I am convinced that I need a replacement set of suspension rods for my Whirlpool Cabrio, it is going out of balance and giving the "UL" code when it goes through its spin cycle and it also sounds like someone is hammering on it. I got the top cover removed finally and got the suspension rods taken out and just from looking at them, they appear to be fine. I was wondering if I should be able to compress the springs on the suspension rods with my bare hands or if they should be completely stiff. Thanks

1 Answer

Rick, The suspension springs can be compressed by hand as long as the rods are straight, and the springs are mounted properly you're machine is OK. You do want to check the ball joints in the top of the cabinet, make re they move freely and there is no excessive wear, check to make sure the washer is level in both directions and the legs are locked in place. You'll need to remove the wash plate and inner tub and check the hub assembly W10820039 if the "teeth" are worn or bent the tub won't engage properly and could also cause a "UL" code and hammering noise. Otherwise the issue would be in the rotary position sensor or stator on the bottom of the tub.

Dank for Model Number 110.27062604

In February of this year I freshened up our '08 Kenmore Oasis washer which was making some rather bad pump & bearing noises (replaced pumps, hub, bearings & shaft and the suspension rod update). Recently in the "wash" mode it makes a loud creak/croak noise as it rocks back & forth during agitation. It isn't consistent nor constant, may creak/croak 3 or 4 times then normal for 20 seconds then back to creak/croak for a few movements or maybe for a minute or more...no rhyme or reason to its cycle as best I tell. I suspect the suspension rods are the culprit, which were replaced in February as well. Listening through the cabinet with a stethoscope the right rear corner is the noisiest. This is a new noise which we haven't heard previously. What are your thoughts/suggestions?

1 Answer

Dank, You will want to make sure that the rods and springs still in place properly and not rubbing against metal.
