Symptoms of a bad infinite switch include:

  • Inability to adjust burner heat levels
  • Burners not heating up or staying on high heat regardless of settings
  • Burners not turning on at all
  • Sparks or unusual noises when adjusting the switch

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Steve for Model Number Whirlpool GJCLBO

Whirlpool GJCLBO On this model cooktop, the left-front burner is dual element; an inner, 1000 W element, and an outer 2,400W element (or 2,400W total I guess). This left-front burner is stuck on HIGH any time the burner is on and I assume I need to replace the infinite switch. However, the diagrams I find online seem to suggest that all the infinite switches are identical. This cannot be, as this one has 0 to MAX for the small (inner) burner on the bottom half of its range, and 0 to MAX for the inner + outer burner on the top half of its range. So what part number should I use for a replacement?

Steve, The model number provided is not showing up as a valid or complete model number. We would need to have this to be able to assist properly.

Joel, The left front burner for your unit is part number WPW10242957. You can test to see if it is the switch or the element by checking the voltage from H1 to H2 on the burner switch with the switch in the on position. If there is 240 vac then the switch is good and the element is faulty. If there is not 240 vac then the switch is faulty. The part numbers for the switches are Left front and right rear WP3148953. For the Right front and left rear the switch part number is WP3148952.
