For Whirlpool Timer (Dryer) (Part Number: OEM18027096)

Ellen, this timer you have referenced is not designed to pull the knob out to start it. It should have a separate push to start switch. If this is not like your timer, I will need a complete model number to see what you are referring to .

Hello Maretta. You will need to make sure the door switch and thermal fuse is good. If so, then it is either the motor or the timer on the unit.

Maretta, You will want to test the door switch for continuity with the door closed and make sure that it is not broken. Also check the thermal fuse on the blower housing for continuity. If no continuity then it would be faulty. If these things checks ok then the issue will be with the motor.

Aaron for Model Number 3976580

I have a Whirlpool Dryer (model LER7646EQ2) front loader that is about 14 years old. Everything on the dryer is working well except the timer knob. The timer is fully functional around all the cycles EXCEPT the timer will get stuck on the last 20 minutes of the Timed Drying cycle. Therefore it keeps running and has to be turned off manually. The other cycles seem to turn off correctly. The heat seems to work fine as well. Before knowing what parts I need to look at replacing, I wanted to see if anyone can help access the problem. Other than my tool kit, I don't have any other parts, meters, but can buy if needed to assess the problem. The heat seems fine on the dryer. I haven't checked the back of the dryer vent from the wall, but the lint filter is cleaned out every cycle.

Frank, On this style dryer, if the timer advances in the timed dry selection, there's a 99% chance the timer is not the issue. If the timer won't advance in the auto dry selection, there's a 99% chance, it is due to a heat issue. You'll need to remove the 1X1 in. plasticcover on the front pnel, start the dryer on any heat cycle and observe the ignition procedure through the opening under the inspection hole cover. When you sttart the dryer, the igniter should glow for 30 to 60 seconds, you should hear a slight click and the igniter should start to fayed and the gas released should ignite. No glow from the igniter would indicate a broken igniter 279311 , faulty sensor WP338906 or open thermostat W11050897 WP3387134 . If the igniter cycles on and off, but there's no flame, then the issue would be a gas supply issue or most likely weak or inop coil assembly 279834 . Thanks

Jad, If you're reading 2.37 ohms across the wiries to the timer motor, it's OK. At this point, you'd want to test the door switch WP3406107 for a "closed" circuit, white to blue with the plunger depressed, and then the test thermal fuse WP3392519 located on the blower housing for a "closed" circuit, with the wires off as well. Thanks and Good Luck
