The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is a crucial component responsible for controlling the flow of water into the washing machine tub during the fill cycles.

Symptoms of a bad water inlet valve include:

  • Washing machine not filling with water or filling slowly
  • Leaks or water drips around the valve or water supply connections
  • Improper water temperature mixing, resulting in incorrect wash temperatures
  • Error codes or warning lights related to water supply or fill issues

Causes of a faulty water inlet valve can include sediment buildup or obstructions within the valve, mechanical wear and tear, electrical malfunctions, or problems with the solenoid that controls the valve's operation.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore washing machines.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Water Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM18021768)

Scott, using the dispenser interface, it would be recommended that the ice maker option is verified as being selected in the on setting. From there, the ice maker will need to be tested to ensure it is receiving 120VAC. With the ice bin removed and the door switch taped in the closed position, there will be a cover on the left side of the ice maker section that would need to be removed. The solid violet wire would need to be tested for 120VAC. If there is proper voltage, the next step would be to unplug the refrigerator, disconnect the wire harness for the ice maker and auger assembly, and remove the assembly by pulling on the lock tab while pulling the assembly forward. This will allow the fill tube located at the top of the cabin to be inspected for an ice blockage. If there is an ice block, the ice would need to be cleared and the valve WPW10349187 would need to be replaced. If there is not an ice block, the most likely failure is in the ice maker W10882923.

Travis for Model Number GI6SARXXF05

My icemaker recently stopped producing ice. I tested the inlet valve and it appeared to work fine directly (I jumped the water dispenser power to the icemaker valve and was able to fill the icemaker by pressing the water paddle). Furher troubleshooting showed the icemaker was not sending 120v to fill. So I replaced the icemaker and everything seemed to work. After a week or so, the icemaker stopped filling again. I verified it was sending 120v when requesting a fill. I jumped the ice fill valve again to the water paddle and it did not fill (so presumably the valve is defective as well). However, when removing my water paddle jump connection I accidentally shorted the connection (sparks, yay). Now the water dispenser no longer functions (120v is not received when the paddle is pushed). I fear I fried a connection somewhere, but am not sure where to look to troubleshoot. Oddly enough, the icemaker started working again (likely the valve is malfunctioning, but not completely broken). How should I diagnose the water dispenser not sending power to the valve?

Travis, Based on the information provided you would need to locate the tech sheet or wiring diagram that came with the refrigerator and the checkpoint for the dispenser would be on the board, and on this model terminal P3-4. for further help contact us at 877-477-7278

Don for Model Number Frigidaire FRS26ZNH

I have checked all three solenoid's on my side by side frig/freezer. All check good with ohm meter around 330 ohms. Ice maker is cycling, no ice, no water at the door. Freezer is set at -10. Checked door switch, its good, the tube going to ice maker is not frozen. Did change filter, didn't look good but was replaced 6 months ago. Put a new one in. I checked voltage at water inlet valve while pushing in the get water switch on the door. I had no voltage at the valve. HELP

1 Answer

Don, Check to see if there are any damaged or broken wires. Check the diode to make sure that it is good. If these checks ok then check to make sure that there are issues with the switches and the icemaker to make sure that they are good.

Nav, unfortunately, there are no repair kits or o-rings available for water inlet valves, you will need to replace the entire valve, part number for your model is WP2315576

Ron, The icemaker will send power out to the main board and then the main board will send power to the water valve test the P3 pin 2 to P1 pin 2 for 120 vac when the icemaker calls for water. If there is not power at that point then the board would be the issue.

Gilbert, You would want to cycle the icemaker a couple times to flush the air out of the lines. This should correct the issue with the ice not being solid.

Hello Sean. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Es for Model Number Whirlpool gi6sarxxf02

My power went out yesterday and ever since my refrigerator makes a periodic whirring or grinding noise, lasts about 5 seconds for 15 minutes or so. I have the icemaker off because there is no water line attached. Could it be the refrigerator isn't recognizing its off and is trying to pull water to make ice? On another note the bottom of the freezer also has a thick layer of ice I have not had a chance to thaw and remove yet, could it be related and the power outage was just a coincidence?

1 Answer

Hello Es, The ice in the bottom is most likely just a stopped up defrost drain. This can be thawed out with a hair dryer. The grinding sound sounds like a possible issue with the power supply to one on the on-board components. I would replace the control board WPW10285199. If this does not correct the issue, the other power board WPW10226427 would be in question.

Hello Pton87. The power to the water valve is provide by the icemaker W10884390. Make sure the temp is 0 to 5 or the icemaker will not cycle properly.
