The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is responsible for controlling the flow of water into the dishwasher during the fill cycles. This valve ensures that the dishwasher receives the correct amount of water needed for washing and rinsing dishes effectively.

You should replace the water inlet valve if it becomes faulty. Causes of a bad water inlet valve can include wear and tear from regular use, mineral buildup from hard water, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning valve can lead to improper water flow, affecting the dishwasher’s performance and potentially causing water leaks.

Symptoms of a bad water inlet valve include:

  • The dishwasher not filling with water or filling slowly
  • Water leaking from the valve area
  • Dishes not being cleaned properly due to insufficient water
  • The dishwasher making unusual noises during the fill cycle

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Water Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM18067017)

Dan for Model Number 106.70104001

Hello, I have a Kenmore freezer over refrigerator. I changed the water filter and now the cold water dispenser located inside the unit drips over time. Everything I've research points to the water inlet valve. I haven't looked at the valve, but the model number points to a single valve, while many of the repair videos show two solenoid. The replacement unit looks to be just one solenoid. Questions: Is it common that the water dispenser will start to drip after changing the water filter? Is the shutoff valve at the water dispenser faulty? Thank you, Dan

1 Answer

Hello Dan. Try running 2 gallons of water through the dispenser to remove any air from the lines. If the drip continues, then either the valve, filter, or filter head is causing the issue. You can remove the line from the valve to see if it is dripping. If so, it is the cause. If not, then the new filter may be defective.

Hello Dan, The water valve can have a small leak as you described without affecting the operation of the unit. The water valve should be replaced to prevent water damage that can result from the drip. I'm sorry but we cannot recommend the correct part number without the model number from the units' I.D. tag. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Scott, This unit would have a dual solenoid in it and the water line could be frozen but sounds likely that it would be a faulty water valve. The part number for the water valve would be WPW10349187.

Scott, The fill valve WPW10349187 / WPW10349187 is a "dual" valve. The green solenoid is for the ice maker and the yellow solenoid is for he water dispenser. The likelihood of a frozen water tank is pretty much nil, the water reservoir is located inside the rear wall along with the fill valve, and isn't likely to freeze unless the panel is missing or there's a major problem with the cooling system or air flow.

Part Number: AP6022336 This valve provides water supply to my refrigerator's ice maker and water dispenser. A single plastic tube enters the bottom of the valve. Water gushes out of the tube insertion point when water is called for by the ice maker or water dispenser. I viewed videos here and attempted to rectify the problem by releasing the tube from the valve, cleaning it up and squaring the end. Following the video instructions I reinserted the tube and tugged slightly. Water still gushes out. Before ordering a replacement valve I'd like to know whether I might have a tube problem, or whether valves like this occasionally fail at the tube insertion area and need to be replaced. Your advice would be appreciated.

1 Answer

Jeff, When inserting the tube into the valve you will want to push a little harder just to ensure that the tube is inserted completely. If this does not correct then this would more likely be a valve issue.

Al, The fitting is referred to as a "john guess" fitting. It operates similar to a compression fitting. You have to make sure the water tube is completely round, not defrormed, there are no burrs or shavings on the end of the tube, and the end of the tube is cut straight at a 90 dgr. Then when all is OK, press in/down on the collar that surrounds the water tube, insert the tube as far as possible, then release the collar. Put a "slight" tug on the water tube to make sure it is seated and seals correctly, then turn on the water supply and check for leaks.

My problem is with the water inlet valve - part no W10342318. It is leaking where the valve attaches to the internal refrigerator water line. Except for the leak it functions well. I tried removing and reattaching the internal water line to the valve but it still leaks. Does the entire part need to be replaced to fix the leak where the water line attaches or is there another simpler way to repair it? This is clearly the source of our water issue as I can see the water spray out of the water line where it attaches to the water inlet valve. Thanks, Joel

Hello Joel. If the valve is leaking, and not the line, you will need to order and replace the water valve on the unit.

My water dispenser is working but my ice maker is not working. I have changed the ice maker W10377151 and inlet valve W10312696 but the ice maker is still not getting water. I tested it and filled up the tray and it makes the ice and kicks it out but then it does not get any water. This is the only inlet valve left to change. Do you think it is this inlet valve? I looked through the line and it didn't seem to have any freezes in it. Any opinion on what could be the problem is appreciated. I have ordered inlet valve w10498990 and will replace that once i get it this weekend but if it still does not work is there anything else i need to check?

1 Answer

Joe, The water valve WPW10498990 would most likely not be the issue especially with the dispenser working. As for the cause of this issue you will want to check the water valve WPW10312696 for the icemaker and make sure that the valve is getting voltage to it when the icemaker cycles. If there is power then the most likely cause would be that the water line is frozen. If there is no power then it sounds like either the wire harness for the icemaker is faulty or the main control board.

Chad for Model Number GI6FARXXY08

HI, my ice maker stopped making ice but I do hear the control arm going up and down every few minutes and the fan kick in occasionally for maybe 5 seconds but no water in the tray. I already replaced part W10312696 but that did not fix anything. I was told to try part W10498990 but not sure that would solve anything as that part leads water only to the water filter and part W10312696 leads water to the ice maker and water dispenser. I do get water out of the water dispenser but no water to the ice making mold. Thanks

1 Answer

Chad, The single water valve WPW10498990 would not be the issue with the unit for only icemaker not getting water. The most likely cause for this issue would be a frozen fill tube or a icemaker that is faulty. You will want to check the fill tube first and then if it checks ok then the issue is the icemaker.

Hello Mekieric, Normally if there is ice in the icemaker when the stoppage occurs, the icemaker W10882923 will require replacement. If the icemaker is empty or partially filled with ice, the water valve WPW10312696 is the issue.
