This replacement washplate sits at the bottom of the tub and uses low-profile fins to move laundry and water for effective cleaning. Replace it if the original is cracked, stripped, or no longer gripping the drive hub.

  • Creates the wash action by circulating water and rolling clothes through the tub
  • Transfers motor torque via the center splines to agitate fabrics
  • Common symptoms: clothes not moving, poor cleaning, wobbly/loose washplate, or ratcheting/grinding during wash
  • Visual clues: cracks, broken fins, or rounded/stripped splines
What's included: 1 washplate Installation notes:

For Whirlpool Washplate (Impeller) (Part Number: OEM18068661)

Nick for Model Number mvwb835dw4

My bravos xl washplate doesnt impell correctly. It moves a couple of inches with the tub one way then back... Over and over and over. I took the rotor and clutch off andbtyed with the inner spline. It moved up and down about .5 inches. I reassembled and the wash was normal again. After the spin cycle and the wash completed, i attempted to start another cycle and it went back to the same way it was before not impelling correctly. I repeated my steps above and got another good wash. Bad clutch?

Hello Nick, what is happening is the slider is getting stuck in the spin position and when the washer tries to agitate and the control sees the motor drawing too much power as it is turning the wash plate and the basket at the same time. When you checked it you freed the slider for a short time. The slider W10734521 has nylon splines that mate to the drive assembly (gearcase) W11393685 splines in spin. They are held apart by the slider spring for agitation and the slider is pulled into the spin position by the electromagnetic clutch only in spin. The splines may be worn or distorted and are not sliding smoothly. The splines are not lubricated. Youu would need to check the splines of the slider and drive assembly and order the slider and if needed the drive assembly also.

Sean, The basket sits on the splined outer shaft of the gearbox. So if the splines on the basket are smooth the basket would have to be replaced. W10752719

I too have already replaced the washplate for my Whirlpool Cabrio. I would say it was within the year or sooner. My question for you is, are there any techniques/best practices that would help to prolong the new parts usage? It seems I'll be buying a new washplate every now and again. Has anyone tried using silicone as a buffer between the gear shaft and plastic splines of the washplate? It seems to me that it would protect the metal gear shaft and provide a soft buffer to the plastic splines. After the silicone cures for 24 hours, of course.

1 Answer

George, using silicone has not been tried to my knowledge. As this is not an approved repair from the manufacturer, we could not recommend doing this. In regards to lessening the wear on the wash plate, the manufacturer recommendations are the best recommendations to go by as they are made with the design of a unit in mind. However, if there is excessive wear in a small amount of time, the splines of the gearshaft may be reduced in size causing a loose fitting of the washplate.

Bob for Model Number Maytag MVWC400XW0

Maytag MVWC400XW0 Maytag Centennial Washer I've replaced lid switch, actuator, splutch, W11035204 NEW Whirlpool Maytag Washer Gear Case Genuine OEM FSP by Whirlpool, drain pump. When I go to calibrate the washer using the proper method, it sits there making small noises, sounds like the gear case is moving some, no water tries to go into washer , then all the green lights and the red light turns off without running through all the items with a green light as it should. Any ideas that would help me get this thing to work properly? Thanks................

1 Answer

Bob, you may want to test the motor W10836348 windings by going to connection J16 on the main control. At this connection, you will want to measure for resistance from pin 5 to pin 6, then pin 5 to pin 7, and the motor should have an ohm reading of 3.5 to 6 ohms. If the resistance is not within that limit, then the motor has failed. If the motor checks good, then the most likely issue would be with the main control W10393490.

Bob, Make sure the belt pulley has not dropped down and rubbing on the belt cover. If this checks out okay there Then try to inspect the teeth on the splutch for wear. The only other possibility if your sure there is no debris between the tubs would be a gearcase issue.

Keith, the when removing the washplate bolt, you will want to hold the washplate to prevent this rotation as it is a normal occurrence. You may want to check the clutch slider [W10734521] to ensure that the spline has not been damaged. From there, you will also want to check between the spin basket and the outer tub to ensure that there is not an object that may be partially stuck. If those check good, then it is possible that the gearcase [W10811956] may have a bad gear. The most likely situation is going to be an issue with the slider or clutch [W10754448].

Hello Bob, the manufacturer does not give a torque rating for that bolt, otherwise best description would be tighten till snug. The bolt should tighten down as it is turned, if it will not tighten it may be stripped,if the bolt is not stripped then the top of the gearcase shaft has stripped out ,that would require the gearcase to be replaced.

Byron, if the washplate has any movement in it when attached to the gearshaft assembly, this free movement can cause the splines to wear out quickly. The spline of the washplate should fit snugly around the spline of the gearshaft and not have any free movement separate from the gearshaft itself. If you could provide the model number for your appliance in a new inquiry, this will allow for more accurate information.
