Refrigerator Can-Air Control Board Parts
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP67001036
This refrigerator defrost timer automatically starts and ends the defrost cycle to melt frost from the evaporator coils. Replacing a failed timer restores consistent cooling performance and helps prevent frost buildup that can restrict airflow.
- Controls the timed switch between cooling and defrost to keep evaporator coils clear of frost
- Common symptoms of failure: heavy frost on the evaporator or back panel, fresh food section too warm, unit runs constantly, or won't resume cooling after defrost
- Restores proper frost removal and airflow for stable temperatures
- Designed to match the original timer's function and wiring connections for applicable models
What's included: Defrost timer Install notes:
- Disconnect power before servicing; wear cut-resistant gloves
- Access location varies by model—often in the fresh food control housing or rear machine compartment
- Photograph/label wire positions and transfer them to the matching terminals on the new timer
- Reuse original mounting hardware and install in the same orientation as the original

I had no cooling in the upper ( not freezer) section of my frige Alexander M. • Gloucester , MA • August 23, 2015
I had had the same problem 4 or 5 years ago and spent close to $200 to repair it.
I did have the slip from that repair with part #'s so I went ahead and ordered a defrost timer and thermostat.
You-tube had plenty of videos on replacing those parts and even before they arrived I was able to add a switch and bypass the broken thermostat and start a cycle manually with the timer. (which it seems was was still functional).
Between that and cycling some ice packs up from the still working...

Erratic/warm temps sometimes worked fine but not reliably Jennifer C. • Plainville , MA • June 15, 2015
My fridge was often reaching 60-70 degrees but would work well when motor/fans were running; it just wasn't cooling regularly. I checked the coils, defrost, damper, and fans, and they all seemed to work, so that only left the cold control in terms of what I was willing to try to fix. (It wasn't worth messing with the compressor as the fridge is 12 yrs old.) The fridge would sometimes kick on when I tapped the cold control knob so it was a reasonable - and, it turns out, correct - guess.

Had error code sy ce. Robert G. • Rockwood , PA • October 16, 2019
I order both boards because everyone said one board did not fix the problem, until they ordered the other board because the new board does not communicate with new one. Well I replaced the board behind where the error was. That seemed to fix the problem. I never changed the main board under the fridge. So I would say try ordering the board behind where error code is. See if that fixes the problem before ordering both boards.

The defrost timer governs the automatic defrost cycle, periodically switching the refrigerator from cooling to defrost. Replacing a failed timer restores reliable defrosting to limit frost buildup and help maintain steady, consistent temperatures. What it does:
- Advances the system through run and defrost periods at set intervals
- Sends power to the defrost heater during defrost, then returns the unit to cooling
- A failed timer may cause heavy frost on the evaporator, poor cooling, or continuous running
- A timer that does not advance or is stuck can leave the refrigerator in defrost or prevent defrost entirely
What's included:
Install notes:
- Disconnect power before servicing
- Access location varies by model
- Photograph wire positions; move wires one at a time to the matching terminals on the new timer
- Transfer any mounting bracket, secure the timer, and restore power to verify operation

Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 5304404821
The Cold Control is an OEM part for Frigidaire refrigerators. This component regulates the temperature inside the refrigerator by controlling the operation of the compressor and the flow of refrigerant. It ensures that the interior remains at the desired temperature to keep food fresh. This temperature control thermostat features a 16" capillary tube.
Over time, the cold control can become faulty due to regular wear and tear, electrical issues, or exposure to moisture. A malfunctioning cold control can result in temperature fluctuations and ineffective cooling.
Symptoms of a bad cold control include:
- The refrigerator not maintaining the correct temperature
- The compressor running continuously or not at all
- Frost buildup in the freezer compartment
- The refrigerator being too warm or too cold
This OEM replacement is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and some Kenmore models.

Originally we found we had an issue when water cane out of the ice maker. The freezer was hovering around freezing and the refrigerator was about 33 deg. What's included:
Install notes:
- Disconnect power before servicing
- Access location varies by model
- Note wire positions and transfer them one at a time to the new timer
- Mount securely in the same orientation as the original and verify normal cycling after power is restored

I took the bottom tray out of the freezer and found the coils iced up severely. I was reasonably sure the defrost timer was the problem and your tech said that was a good possibility. Ordered and replaced timer. (15 minutes) Problem fixed!!! Saved purchasing a new fridge at big bucks. We live over 40 miles from a service center so the cost of having a tech come out is astronomical. Thanks!!!

Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 5304522330
The Cold Control is an OEM part for Frigidaire refrigerators. It plays a key role in regulating the refrigeration cycle and maintaining optimal temperatures inside the refrigerator and freezer compartments. The cold control sensor monitors interior conditions and signals the compressor and condenser fan module to turn on or off accordingly.
Causes of bad cold control can include fatigue of internal components from repeated cycling over the refrigerator's lifespan, mineral or moisture buildup affecting sensors and circuitry, or failure due to sudden temperature fluctuations.
Symptoms of a bad cold control include:
- Inconsistent or fluctuating temperatures within compartments
- The refrigerator or freezer running constantly
- Food not staying freshest as long as expected
- Frost or ice buildup inside that is difficult to remove
This OEM Frigidaire replacement part is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and Kenmore models.
