This fridge has had a problem of ice building up around evaporator coil in fresh food side. Wife (she HATES this thing) says it's done this from day one; 10 years. GE guy says all these models do this and there's no fix for it, so we have clean out the ice periodically... Like the 1940s pre auto defrost. Now with the issue of FF side temp too highi assumed the ice had built up around FF evaporator coil preventing proper cooling, but AppliancePartsPros.com suggested the FF temp thermistor may... This DC evaporator fan motor assembly circulates air across the evaporator coils inside your refrigerator. It restores proper airflow for even cooling and temperature recovery when a noisy, weak, or non-running fan motor fails. What it does:
Lack of water was due to frozen water reservoir on refrigerator side. Frozen water was due to temperature issues - cold on bottom of both freeder and refrigerator side, warmer at top. This was caused by evaporator fan failure. The fan had come loose from its housing and eventually vibrated itself to death - wire leads had vibrated open. Since the fan/wire harness are integrated, I needed to replace the unit. Evaporator fan blade took a beating too, so I replaced that as well. Online repair... Read more

The Drain Tube is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It is responsible for directing defrost water to the drain pan located beneath the appliance, where it can evaporate safely.
Causes of a bad drain tube can include blockages from debris or ice, physical damage such as cracks or splits that allow water leakage, or a disconnection from its fitting points due to improper installation or material fatigue.
Symptoms of a bad Drain Tube include:
Pulled down the existing drain tube and installed new one. Tight area so it requires two hands to push up and attach the new tube. The short rubber tubing attached to the new drain tube has to fit snug onto the plastic tube connection that hangs down. Replacing the water dispenser tray is simple and no explanation needed, Read more
The Auger Motor is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. This part drives the auger in the freezer's ice dispenser mechanism. This motor is vital for the smooth operation of the ice dispenser, enabling it to deliver ice cubes or crushed ice through the dispenser chute upon demand.
Over time, the auger motor can wear out or sustain damage due to normal use, leading to a decrease in performance or complete failure.
Symptoms of a malfunctioning Auger Motor include:
Replaced auger motor Read more
The Grill Recess is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators. It is located in the dispenser area, acting as a catch tray to collect drips and spills from the water or ice dispenser. This component helps keep the dispenser area clean and prevents water from dripping onto the floor or refrigerator surfaces.
Over time, the grill recess can become cracked, discolored, or damaged due to regular use and exposure to moisture. Replacing it ensures a clean appearance and continued functionality of the dispenser area.
This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.
Followed the instructions in your video. The demonstration is well done and easy to follow. Read more
The Fresh Food Door Gasket is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators. It forms an air-tight seal around the fresh food door preventing air and moisture exchange between the refrigerator interior and exterior. The gasket helps to maintain the ideal temperature and humidity levels inside for optimal food storage. Causes of a bad gasket can include cracks, tears, or worn-away sections compromising the air-tight seal over time. Exposure to heat, moisture, or chemicals during cleaning may also degrade sealing qualities. Symptoms of a bad gasket include:
This GE OEM replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.
Ordered replacement seals for both freezer and refrigerator sides. Followed directions that I had found on YouTube. The installation in a nut shell is warm the seals in a bathtub with very hot water for at least 2-3hrs then place the seals. Then warm the seals with a hair dryer as needed. After getting the seals out of the hot bath the installation took all of 20-25 minutes for both seals. Read more
The Ice Deflector Spring is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators. This spring is a crucial component of the ice dispensing system, specifically in selecting between crushed and whole ice cubes. It is designed to always force the diverter back in a way that the cubes get crushed. When whole cubes are selected, the solenoid pulls the lever against the spring’s tension to shift the configuration, allowing cubes to bypass the crusher blades.
Causes for a malfunctioning Ice Deflector Spring can include wear and tear from regular use, corrosion due to constant exposure to moisture, or mechanical failure that prevents it from effectively reverting the diverter to the crushed ice configuration.
Symptoms of a bad Ice Deflector Spring include:
When I took it apart I found that the drive cup was cracked, the helix lock plate hole was reamed out and the ice deflector spring was broken. The biggest problem was the helix had slipped down the shaft and allowed the end of the shaft to bore a hole in the housing which made it a bear to get out. Others have had the same problem. Once I got past that obstacle, it was simple to replace all the parts and it's working like normal again. Very helpful video explaining the repair. Read more
This evaporator fan motor dust cap is an authentic OEM replacement part found on refrigerator and freezer fan motors. This dust cap prevents the fan motor bearing and housing from being damaged by dirt and debris. If the dust cap is cracked or broken, the fan may make loud squealing noises. If the dust cap is not removed and replaced, the fan could stop working and ultimately cause the refrigerator's temperature to be affected. To start, disconnect the power and water to the refrigerator. Remove food from the freezer so that the back panel of the freezer can be accessed to reach the fan. Remove the ice maker and set it outside the freezer. Disconnect the fan and take it out of the freezer to expose the fan's shaft and the dust cover. Pry the dust cover off and install the new one. Replace the fan and cover. Reconnect the wires and reinstall the icemaker. Put the food back in the freezer. Reconnect the power and water. The evaporator fan motor dust cap is a white plastic part that is sold individually. This dust cover is made for use in refrigerators manufactured by General Electric, Hotpoint, and Kenmore.

The Screw is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It serves a crucial function in securing and allowing smooth operation of the refrigerator's drawer rollers.
Causes of a bad or missing screw can include accidental loss during repair or maintenance, stripping of the screw threads due to overtightening, or general wear and tear over time.
Symptoms of a loose or screw include:
Used the schematic provided to select the parts needing replacement and placed the order. Parts arrived and swapping new for old was simple. For the most part it was a matter of taking out the old and putting in the new. There were a few screws with wheels to replace but that was easy as well. Before purchase I searched several different sites and found all the parts needed. I compared prices of each item as well as shipping cost. Prices for each item were nearly identical between sites... This helix is the plastic spiral inside the refrigerator's ice bucket that works with the auger to move ice toward the crusher and dispenser. Replacing a worn or broken helix restores smooth ice dispensing and reduces jams.
Ice was not being dispensed when lever was pushed in either crushed or cubed mode I removed the ice bin. After searching the web for reasons for this I pulled the bin out and started looking at auger assembly. I noticed that the sections of the Helix blades were missing. Ordered the Helix here at AAP and received the part the next day. The whole process took about an hour and as others have noted, you have to disassemble the bin assembly to get the auger assembly out. I watched the video... Read more
