Frigidaire Gallery gas dryer from maybe 15 years ago. Based on the fact the the smell was only in the dryer, I concluded it must be the gas valve failing to completely seal when closed. After looking at the insides again, I suppose it is possible that it was a connection near the burner, but that stuff had remained untouched for 10 years so I still think I made a good assumption. • Timer will not advance

I went ahead and ordered the element, and the 2 different thermostats not knowing exactly which one might be the problem. My My Maytag opens from the front and it was actually pretty easy to get into. Also gave me the opportunity to vacuum out the inside of the dryer. Pop the top off, remove the wires that connect the door switch (noting the colors and placement), take off the 2 inside nuts that hols the fron on, pull it forward and lift it off, 3 inside screws to take out to inside lint part... Put both thermostats in as I did not know if the unit was cycling on high limit at times. Fixed both issues plus I used my lawn blower and blew all the lint out of dryer and short 3' hose. I also lubed rear drum bearings. Works like new. Ron R Read more

It was easy to find the part on appliance parts pros. Once I found it I studied the diagram and determined that there were 3 screws in the drum that needed to be removed. I disconnected power and then removed 3 interior screws. Once I did that I removed the back cover and removed the single screw on the bottom side of the air duct that held it in place connected to the heat tube. I then reversed disassembly. Replaced valve had some trouble removing the fitting from the valve as the new fitting was slightly too large and had to be replaced with the fitting from the old valve. Used a large crescent wrench to grip the valve at the base and I was able to apply enough force to remove both fittings transferring old fitting to new valve. I looked inside and saw the teeth were worn off the "dogs" so I purchased the Cam Agitator repair kit and a new bolt. Getting the old bolt out was the hardest part since it was worn and rusted. I ended up having to buy a set of socket extensions and a set of stripped bolt sockets so $45 in tools and it took me an hour to get the old bolt out but putting everything back together was a breeze. This was more maintenance than a fix. I replaced the door gasket and temp sensor on my dryer. Thought what the heck and it might work more efficiently. I also replaced the shocks on my front loading washer. That was a bit of a chore, but could not have done it without the video that showed how to replace them. The socket was the life saver. Unscrewed the front lower panel ( 2 screws ). Disconnected the pump hose clamp and removed the hose. I loosened the lower back panel and pulled out the drained hose from the rear. Replaced with new hose put back clamp and panels. Very easy Read more
