Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You No heat in gas dryer   Peter S. • Glenview , IL • April 23, 2024

Realizing that there could be multiple reasons for a gas dryer failing to heat, I decided to test everything I could. The very detailed and product specific video showed me how to disassemble the dryer. High Limit Thermostat
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WE4M80

This replacement part is a high-limit thermostat, and it is intended for use in different types of appliances. This is a genuine replacement part made by General Electric. This high-limit thermostat is typically found in dryers and controls the heat inside the drying tub. This is especially important as different dryer settings require different amounts of heat. If the high limit thermostat works properly, the temperature inside the tub should reach the correct amount during each drying cycle with no issues. A new high-limit thermostat might be needed if the user notices that the dryer is unable to reach the appropriate level of heat for a certain drying cycle. This is also true if the dryer is becoming too hot when the heat is supposed to be set to low. Make sure the dryer is cooled down prior to replacing this part as the areas in the back of the dryer can become very hot during use. Be sure to reference the specific user manual for more instructions on how to replace the thermostat. This thermostat is sold individually and is a genuine OEM part. The thermostat is sourced directly from the manufacturer.

Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WD01X10342

This is a genuine replacement coupler for select dishwashers made by GE and Hotpoint. The dishwasher coupler is designed to connect the spray arm to the unit and provide the connection for the water supply. This durable plastic coupler is subject to high heat and repetitive motion and can break or wear down over time. This could result in dishes not be cleaned properly. The unit may also be leaking or failing to drain. In the event that this happens, a replacement will be needed. This OEM coupler is manufactured to exact standards. It is sold as an individual unit and does not include any additional accessories or hardware. The spray arm will need to be accessed in order to complete this repair, which requires a nut driver and flathead screwdriver. Dryer Cycling Thermostat (Multi-Temp)
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP307249

This multi-temperature cycling thermostat regulates the dryer's drum heat, switching the heater on and off to match the temperature setting you choose. It can help restore consistent drying if temperatures are erratic, loads run too hot, or cycles take too long.

  • Maintains target temperature by opening and closing the heater circuit across multiple heat settings
  • Provides calibrated temperature control for safe, efficient drying
  • Failure may present as no heat or low heat, overheating, very long dry times, or inconsistent temperatures
  • Intended for models with multiple temperature selections
What's included: 1 cycling thermostat Install notes:
  • Unplug the dryer; shut off gas supply if applicable. Allow the appliance to cool before servicing.
  • Take a photo of wire positions; move wires to the new thermostat one at a time to matching terminals and ensure snug connections.
  • Remove/install mounting screws and seat the thermostat flat against the mating surface for proper sensing.
  • After reassembly, clear lint passages and verify proper vent airflow.
Diagnostic tips:
  • If there's no heat at all, also check the thermal fuse, high-limit thermostat, heating element (electric), or igniter/burner components (gas).
  • Restricted venting can mimic thermostat issues and cause overheating or long dry times.

Temperature Limiter
Genuine Bosch part
By: Bosch
Part Number: 00422272

The Temperature Limiter is an OEM component specifically designed for select Bosch vented dryers requiring controlled airflow temperatures. As a safety device, it restricts exhaust heat to prevent overheating risks.

Precisely calibrated links of heat-treated alloys automatically trip circuits upon exceeding preset thermal thresholds. Protected housings shield reactive cores from moisture while allowing intended response capabilities.

Causes often involve years of exposure distorting sensitive triggering components slow to cool cycles. Intentional physical manipulation could also disable protection absent automatic overrides.

Symptoms of a bad temperature limiter include:

  • Inability to sense and respond to rising exhaust air temperatures
  • Lack of functioning cool-down phases from disabled safety trips
  • Continuously energized heating systems without regulation posing risks

This OEM Bosch replacement limiter is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau and select Kenmore dryers employing sensitive temperature cutoffs. Correct installation restores critical safety control circuits.
