Not exactly sure why it broke. Nothing was dropped on it. We assumed it finally gave due to heat cycling stress. Replacing the top was fairly easy, though it was useful to have a couple extra sets of hands to help lower and reinstall the burner frames. The replacement didn't come with the front attachment lip or the rear hinge pins, but they were easily removable from the original piece. The repair took under fifteen minutes.
