The Compressor Run Capacitor is an OEM replacement part for Frigidaire refrigerators. This electrical component is essential for providing the necessary torque to start and maintain the operation of the compressor motor, which is responsible for cooling the refrigerator.

Symptoms of a failing compressor run capacitor include:

  • The refrigerator not running or cooling properly
  • The compressor failing to start or running intermittently
  • Humming or buzzing noises coming from the compressor area

Causes of needing to replace the compressor run capacitor can include normal wear over time, exposure to high temperatures or electrical surges, or physical damage to the capacitor itself.

This OEM replacement is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and Kenmore refrigerator models.

Questions & Answers

For Frigidaire Compressor Run Capacitor (Part Number: OEM12947568)

Hello John, the freezer may have gone into a defrost cycle. At the rear by the compressor is the defrost ttimer, you can manually turn it with a screwdriver in the center, turn it slightly and see if anything changes. Also check if the evap fan motor running, is the compressor running.

Gary, if the compressor is receiving 120VAC at the yellow wire, then the overload/relay 297237702 or the compressor 5304537072 would be suspected. If there is a continuous click every couple of minutes, then the overload/relay would be the most likely suspect. If there is not a click and the compressor is warm to the touch, then the compressor has failed. If the compressor is the issue, an HVAC certified technician would be necessary to perform any repairs. If there is not 120VAC going to the compressor, then the defrost timer 5304518034 would need to be tested at the blue wire for incoming voltage and the yellow wire for outgoing voltage. If the timer has incoming voltage but no outgoing voltage at the yellow or orange wires, then the timer has failed. If there is not voltage at the blue wire, then the temperature control 5304513033 would be the issue.

Pacamper, you may want to inspect the condenser coils to ensure that they are clear of any dust build up. You may also want to inspect the unit for signs of a freon leak.

Hello Pacamper08, you can try a new compressor start device part 218721108, but due to the age of this model, it is likely a locked rotor compressor.

Ace, there could be multiple things going on. You may want to verify that the proper voltage is being sent to the compressor, as well as checking to ensure that the condenser coils are clear. If you are able to measure the amp draw of the compressor, the amp draw reading should be between 1.1 to 1.6 amps. If the amp draw is higher or lower, then you have a bad compressor. If the compressor is not receiving voltage, then you will want to test the cold control 241537103 and the defrost timer 215846604 for proper operation.

David for Model Number WR55X24064

A couple of weeks ago, I woke up to find that the freezer door to my side by side fridge was not closed properly. I looked inside and there was frost all over, yet it was still blowing cold air. I closed the door and it immediately turned off and never came back on. After a bit of on line research, I tested the capacitor for continuity and there was none, so I replaced it with a new one. It worked great. Well, it’s been a couple of weeks and the exact same thing happened. The door was left partially open, it was frosty inside and as soon as I closed it, the fan turned off. Checked the capacitor again and it was damaged. I’m trying to understand why this would keep damaging my capacitor or could it be another underlying issue. Do you have any idea what that could possibly be? I will add that I did not replace the relay to which it connects to (the one with 3 holes that plugs directly into compressor). Thank you for your assistance.

1 Answer

David, It would be more likely that there is another issue such as a start device that may have failed rather than the run capacitor.

Attila, The capacitor would not cause the unit to not work. If there is nothing running at all then it would be recommended to check the defrost timer and turn the dial on it to see if the unit will come on. If it will then the defrost timer is stuck in defrost and would need replacing.

Jon, Part # 297370600 controls the power going to the fans and compressor. If no voltage is at the compressor in a cool mode [120 vac] then change the control.

Jae, Make sure the compressor is running. If it's running and no cool then it has failed to pump the refrigerant thru the system and would need to be replaced. If not running then 5304491941 would more than likely get you going.

Carol, you should be getting 120 volts to the start relay when the refrigerator is plugged in and running. If voltage is there and the compressor is not running, replace the start relay, part number is W10873801
