Deb K for Model Number PLHS67EESB9

Only can get crushed ice, not cubed. This took hours to fix, and then discovered nothing was broken. The solenoid was just fine. It can appear broken if you remove the ice bin while the setting on the front panel is in cube mode. If you then put it back in you will only get crushed ice, because the solenoid's white plastic bar is now sitting above the brass bar and is unable to do its job. When removing and replacing the ice bin you should always have it in Crushed ice mode. Hours of hell for what could have been a 2 second button push. All this crap about "getting/checking power to the solenoid" . I just think there should be a label warning folks.

Deb, Thank you for this information. There is another way that you can check this without disassembling the unit. If you look at the hole where the solenoid is and see the bar, it should be in the down position. If it is in the up position just simply use a flat blade screwdriver to pop it down. The solenoid shaft is normally just stuck in place.

Robert, If the ice container is frozen then you will want to pull it out and run it under hot water or let it sit out and thaw. Make sure that when you remove it that you shut the icemaker off to make sure that it does not dump ice while the bin is out. If the icemaker itself overfilled and is frozen then you will need to remove the icemaker from the unit and run under hot water to get the ice to melt.

Dee for Model Number ffhs2611lw0

I bought the fridge new, it is 5 years old. and there only two of us in the house, and This ice maker has been broke in one way or the other the whole time. It takes forever to make ice,we've checked every thing with that. To switch back from crushed to whole cube, you have to move the bar buy hand, the clear round chute has been cracked for I don't know how long, it is rusted up, the side walls on the bin aren't high enough to pile the ice up to shut off on it own,and now the auger assembly is broke.

Dee, It seems you have a few issues, replacement of the ice bin 241860803 is probably the best and easiest option, just a few too many issues. The crushed and cubed ice is controlled by the shifter arm on the side of the bin and a solenoid 241675704 in the rear cover at the back of the freezer compartment behind the bin. You'll need to see if you get voltage back to the solenoid when cubed ice is selected and the paddle is pressed. Ice production is a result of various sources, With a temperature of -2°F to +5°F in the freezer, the rate of harvest will be 8 - 12 cycles per 24 hour period. The ice maker should fill with 2 to 3 oz. of water to produce the proper sized cubes, and cycle the ice maker properly ( every 90 minutes or so) and make sure the freezer temperature is 0 dgrs. +/- 3 dgrs.

Michael, The plastic savings are the result of the chopper blades and spacers being worn and bent inside the front cover. They contact the casing and retainers and the chips fall out with the ice. You can remove the front panel and front housing and replace the spacers and retainers and check and straighten the chopper blades or replace the complete bin assembly.
