Hello Sxmlynch, Based on the information provided it appears that you would need to replace the water filter head WR02X45206 on the unit. The water filter head is allowing the water to flow into filter but not allowing to flow out. This is a bad valve in the head assembly.

John for Model Number PSS25MGNAWW

During Hurricane Sandy I powered my house via a 3000w pure sine wave inverter conneced to (3) 12v deep cycle batteries in parallel for maximum runtime. the battery bank could be hooked up to my truck to keep the batteries charged. Anyway I had a Kill-a-watt monitoring device plugged into the refrigerator cord before the inverter powered it. The reading I received were, 135w when cooling and 585w when defrosting which is quite a draw on the batteries if the truck is not connected and running. What I would like to do is put a switch in the power feed side of the defrost heater lamp so I can turn it off if I have to power the refrigerator via the inverter again. I think I can do without defrost cycles until the power comes on for several days without effecting the refrigerator/freezers performance.Where does the current to the defrost heater come from, I cannot find a schematic for the electrical on my PSS25MGNAWW. I also changed sump pumps from a 9 Amp to a 3.8 Amp to lighten the load some more. Thanks!

Hello John. The power for the defrost heater comes from the main control board on the back of the unit.

Laura, If you have already tightenned the fittings, and it still leaks, you'll want to replace the water valve WR57X33326. Brass metal fittings don't develop leaks, very often.

I have replaced the water filter a couple times over the years without incident, but this time, when I removed the filter and installed the bypass, water started spewing from the filter head. I quickly replaced the bypass with the filter again but water continued to spew from the filter head. I can't see any explanation but had to just turn the water off (so now no ice either!) until I get a clue what could be wrong. Anyone? Thanks in advance.

1 Answer

Hi Mark. If the Filter Head part # WR02X45206 has a burr where the bypass faces it then it will not properly seal. The water supply comes from the water valve part # WR57X33326. If the valve has not closed and you are getting full pressure (with the power off the valve) then it will be an issue. Remove the water line going to the filter head from the valve. Turn the house valve back on and the units valve should not spew water unless the valve is defective. Thank You.

Mark, You're on track, the issue would be in the filter head assembly. We show a different filter / tube assembly WR02X45209 for the partial model number you supplied. Thanks

The ice flap wouldn't close. I replaced it and replaced the water filter at the same time. The ice flap still wont open and close I was going to replace the solenoid and see if that would work. I replaced the water filter when I changed the ice flap. The water through the door was working fine after I replaced it but not no water is coming out. I can hear it humming but no water. After reading post I didn't fill the water filter with water before I put it in. Could this be the problem? What can I Do?

1 Answer

Hello Jennifer, The solenoid could fix the ice dispense issue, if the solenoid is getting voltage but not actuating. As far as the water dispense goes, you should dispense water for about 2 minutes to "bleed" the air from the water filter. It is not necessary to remove it to put water into it. The system puts water in it when you hit the dispense button. Also, when the water starts coming out, the manufacturers recommend throwing away at least 2 gallons of water to purge the line.

Katie for Model Number GSS25TGPE

Our freezer (side x side) seems to get warmer than what it should for a defrost cycle. There is water that drips off of the back left corner of the ice cube tray. It used to drip so that icicles would form on the back left side all the way down. Then I put a bowl under it to catch the water. Some stuff in the freezer seems to unthaw a little, but not alot. Some water bottles I have in there thaw out so there's a little water in them. Then it will seem to start working again. We also empty out the ice cubes when we see it starting to happen and turn off the ice maker. At the same time in the fridge, the veggie drawer freezes anything that's in there and sometimes the lower drawer as well. Then it starts working ok again. Usually lasts about a day or so. Any ideas?

Hello Katie. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the control board WR55X10942C is sticking in the defrost cycle and you will need to replace the control board on the unit.

Scott

Ive got a GE profile side by side purchased in Jan of 09. Recently the water flow has been getting slow and has now stopped from the water dispenser. Ive changed the filter and still nothing. Ive unhooked and snaked all of the lines with trimmer string and have found no blockages, freezing etc. Even unhooked the blue quick connect ot the bottom of the freezer door and have no water flow. Ive removed the back access at the bottom of the fridge to access the valves. They are turning on, but there is no water coming to them from the filter. Ive tried the filter bypass and still have no flow. My question is, Ive now got the filter housing removed, if it is unhooked from the valve body with the line going into my sink, and the supply side is hooked up, with the filter installed, or filter bypass, should it flow water out the valve side line. I would think it should, but it does not. The check valve seems to be ok since the filter did fill with water and if I push it with a blunt object, it will flow. If I blow thru the valve side of the line, air travels freely thru the filter housing.... Im stumped and thirsty. Help! -Scott

Hello Scott. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the water valve WR57X33326 is bad and will need to be replaced. If there is power coming to the water valve, and the water is turned on, but no water coming out, you will need to replace the water valve on the unit. Hope this helps.

Replaced Mwf Filter for Model Number GSS25WSTIS

I replaced my MWF water filter with a GE replacement. There were no issues with water pressure prior to changing the filter. I forgot to fill the filter with water before installing. When I use the water dispenser, there is a burst of high pressure water followed by an extremely light stream of water. Also there is a 'humming' noise. I have purged the system by running the water through the door for over 5 consecutive minutes and there is no increase in water pressure. The only difference in water pressure is when I over-tighten the filter. This leads me to believe that the rubber gaskets may not be creating a good seal - although the refrigerator is two years old. 1.) does this system include the entire assembly (looking for just the gaskets if it is the cause)? 2.) what is the cause?

1 Answer

Hello. Did the new filter MWFP look like the old one you removed and the old was not the metals canister filter that needs the adapter ADAPTER. If the filters were the same, and there is no air in the system, you will need to replace the filter housing WR02X45206 on the unit. Hope this helps.
