The Suspension Rod & Spring Assembly is an OEM part for GE washing machines. This assembly helps support the washer tub, reducing vibrations and maintaining balance during the wash and spin cycles. It ensures that the washer operates smoothly and minimizes excessive movement.

Causes of a bad suspension rod & spring assembly can include wear and tear from regular use, damage from heavy or unbalanced loads, or corrosion over time. The springs can lose tension, and the rods can become bent or damaged, affecting the washer's stability.

Symptoms of a bad suspension rod & spring assembly include:

  • Excessive shaking or vibrating during the wash or spin cycle
  • Loud banging noises during operation
  • The washer tub appearing unbalanced or leaning to one side
  • Clothes not spinning dry effectively

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Gary, Check and make sure the washer is level in both directions, and as close to the floor as possible. Make sure all four feet are on solid ground/floor. Check the cabinet for dents, dings, twists and bends in the metal. Remove the spin basket and check to see if it is "out of round" and/or if the balancing fluid in the top portion of the balance ring has been lost/leaked.

Washer goes out of balance often with medium to large loads. The loads do not appear to be noticeably out of kilter. The washer is level. The balance ring has fluid. None of the suspension rods/springs are broken. The tub does bounce up and down several times when pushed down and released quickly. Could the bottom tub/rod bushings be worn out allowing them to slide too easily on the rod? Do the springs get weak? What is the half round grommet on the rod above the tub mount bushing/ball socket for? It would appear it only indicates how far the rod has traveled downward through the tub bushing takes some effort to slide it on the rod.

Hello Bruce. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the suspension W10780048 is bad and will need to be replaced. They do become weak over time.

My washer tub is damaging the washer cover, and had two dampening straps broken in the front. I replaced both those and it still shakes and makes loud banging noise when in spin cycle. I took out the agitator and saw that all the screws (322) but one are sheared off in the bottom of the tub. I wanted to replace the suspension arms, but mine are orange in the back and tan in front. Which color should I buy? And should I replace the bearing hub and associated parts?

Joe, You more than likely have a bent apron causing the tub to sag enough to cause the motor pulley to scrap. You will need the Kit cover assembly with bracket WH49X20925 to correct this.

Hello Dan. You will need to check and make sure the leg assembly WH17X101 is not cracked on the unit. Also, make sure the washer is good and level.

Hello Paul, There are two different parts because the weight of the motor requires a different strength strut in the front to prevent an uneven spin. There should be no problem with reinstalling the ones you have because the problem was probably caused by a weak weld rod support assembly WH46X10270. These support the full weight of the tub and bend easily when the unit is moved or dropped. When they are necessary, the metal bracket on the bottom of the motor will drag the main base and leave a visible mark.
