For Samsung Refrigerator Ice Maker Assembly (Part Number: OEM16955256)

Dan T for Model Number RFG297AARS/XAA

We have issues with ice buildup and clumping in our ice maker on this fridge. Ice forms over time along the rear left side wall of the ice maker compartment, starting at the rear. The ice in the bin starts to clump over time as well. The ice compartment seems very cold and the ice forming in the compartment is very solid. When the ice is cleared out, the unit works well for a while. The water dispenser works well and the filter has been recently replaced. We also have ice build up over time under the full width slide out drawer at the bottom of the fridge, but I'm not sure if that's related.

Dan, You will want to seal the area along the left edge bottom with a food-grade silicone, Also check for leaking from the icemaker like it is overfilling with water.

Chris for Model Number RF4287HARS/XAA-01

Ok so my ice maker stopped making ice I replaced the ice maker twice with DA97-07365G, it works for a few days then stops, I replace the water supply to increase pressure. Water dispenses great still no ice. Replaced water valve DA97-07827B. All lines are clear and should be working fine. You can hear the Ice Maker making moaning sounds like it trying to do something but still no ice. Taking suggestion on the direction to go now. Please help.

1 Answer

Chris, it would be recommended that the water valve is tested for 120 VAC when the ice maker reset button is pressed. Near the end of the reset cycle, the valve should receive voltage. If the voltage does not reach the valve, it would be likely that the main control DA41-00684A is not properly operating. If voltage does reach the valve, it is possible that there is a frozen section in the ice maker line where it is not readily visible. Another factor that can affect the ice maker operation is the temperature set for the freezer. If the freezer temperature is set lower than 0°F, it can affect the ice maker operating properly.

As a followup to a previous question, my new icemaker DA97-07365G does not function properly. Error 39E. Pressed the reset button on installation, unit cycled, filled with water and produced one tray of ice about 4 hours later. Then nothing. Error 39E. It does not sound like an electrical problem as IM did in fact make and dump ice once. Could this be a bad solenoid valve causing ice tray to overflow into the mechanism then freeze thus preventing the motor etc. to turn and dump ice? Thanks.

1 Answer

Margaret, the error 39E shows that the main control is seeing an issue with the heater in the ice maker. As the ice maker has been replaced, the most likely failure is in the main control based on the fact that the ice maker will manually harvest. To ensure the correct part number is identified, there will be a REV number next to the barcode on the model/serial tag that would be necessary.

Margaret, the error 39E is going to reference the ice maker tray heater not functioning properly. As the ice maker has been replaced, the failure would likely either be a wire issue or a main control failure. The heater circuit can be tested to identify if it would be a wire issue. With the refrigerator power cord unplugged, the main control would need to be accessed and the wires at connection CN 70-1 would be tested from the black wire at pin 3 to the gray wire at pin 7 for 91O. If the resistance checks good, the failure is in the main control. If the resistance check shows an open circuit, the failure would be in a loose connection or a bad wire.

Art for Model Number RFG296HDRS/XAA

My DA97-07365G fridge ice maker does not make ice. I have remover and disassembled the ice maker and have no stripped gears or broken parts. Water dispenser works, freezer temp is set to -8 degrees F, reset button beeps but nothing happens. Turned off power to box for a few hours and reapplied, no fix. The full ice arm is raised even though the ice bin is empty. One time when I hit the reset button the motor ran and the full ice arm lowered and then raised itself. It appears to me the arm needs to be down to allow the unit to make ice but the arm is never down. The second removal found the ice tray full of water but no ice. This was noticed after an over night time period. I don't know when the water ran. I don't understand how replacing the ice maker will fix the problem. Please comment, thanks, Art

1 Answer

Art, with the ice bin removed and the door switch activated, it will be necessary to identify if the ice maker fan (located in the freezer section) is blowing cold air into the ice maker section by feeling for air coming from the back. If there is not, the next step would be to close the door and test the main control at the connection CN76. With the red probe at pin 2 and the black probe on pin 1, there should be a 7-12VDC reading. If not, the main control has failed or the ice off button has been activated. If there is correct voltage, the fan should be rotating and would need to be inspected for an ice blockage in the freezer section preventing the fan from rotating. If there is not an ice block, the evaporator cover assembly DA97-07656A would need to be replaced.

Toni for Model Number RF32FMQDBSR/AA

Hi. I have had numerous service visits for my ice maker. The last repair guy installed a new unit. It works fine, but every month, give or take, I need to defrost it. However last week, I went to get ice, the auger ran and no ice. I found a mass of ice jammed at the front of the ice bin and in the ice chute. Defrosted all. Now the auger runs for 2+ minutes every 20 minutes. Have turned off power to fridge overnight and turned back on, auger still runs. Turned ice off and back on, still runs. Child lock on then off, still runs. Combo of ice and child lock, still runs. If it is running, it does stop when I open the door. Is there a fix? Is there a way to disable it? I want the water dispenser to work, but at this point, I can do without the ice maker. At least until I get a new fridge with 2 icemakers n case 1 breaks!! Thanks.

1 Answer

Toni, it would be recommended that the ice maker section is inspected for any possible water that may have frozen in the wire connectors creating a bridged connection. In regards to the ice building up, the door chute would need to be inspected for a possible air leak. Using a flashlight, if light shines up through the door chute to where the ice bin connects to the door this would signify an air leak. This can oftentimes be caused by the motor in the chute assembly DA97-08680G not closing fully.
