For Samsung Washer Balance Ring Assembly (Part Number: OEM12981123)

Daniel for Model Number WF330ANW/XAA

I am having an issue where the washer will not spin up to full speed, stopping due to severe vibration. It also happened with the washer empty. I inspected the shocks and they seem to freely move within a 1.5" band then resist any further than that (ended up buying new ones). I completely disassembled the unit to inspect the spider (bearings and seal were all good). I need to finish cleaning the spider (very dirty and evidence of corrosion) and look for cracks. I lastly removed the balance ring and as I rotated it, it sounded like a viscous fluid shifting back and forth. Is that normal? Should I replace the balance ring?

1 Answer

Daniel, The balance ring is as it should be. It sounds as though you have taken all the necessary steps to correct the issue.

Robert for Model Number WF337AAW/XAA

The scenario: This washer does not send a consistent 120 volt signal to the discharge pump. It seems that the relay for the pump can be heard switching but VOM indicates no 120 volts at the pump leads. When this happens, the cycle seems to paused while attempting multiple times to energize the pump. After about 10-12 minutes, if the discharge pump remains off, a "nD" code is set. However, when this occurs, the cycle seems to continue when the "Start/Pause" button is pressed. Two Questions: What is the procedure for "Quick Test Mode" for this model? Is there some other component in series with the discharge pump which may be defective and prevent the proper pump voltage from being applied?

1 Answer

Robert, There should be a tech sheet inside the unit to that will show how to put the unit into a service diagnostic mode but if there is no power getting to the pump then the control board will be the cause for this issue.

Leonard for Model Number WF45R6100AW/US

Hope you can help. I have a Samsung WF45R6100AW/US front load washer. From day one it has always had a off balance problem. If I put more than two pairs of blue jeans in the washer it goes out of balance. (does not do it with say a small load of towels or whites) A loud banging can be heard coming from the washer and it bounces around. It will eventually will find balance and spin but after several attempts to find balance. It has damaged my outer door seal as a result. Any help would be appreciated. P.S. videos are of GREAT help thanks

1 Answer

Leonard, it would be recommended that the spin basket DC97-21456A is wiggled around. If the basket does wiggle around inside of the outer tub, there is an issue with the spider shaft as there should not be any play. This could be something such as a loose bolt, or a crack in the shaft if there is play. If the basket does not wiggle inside of the outer tub, the next step would be to rotate the basket by hand slowly and listen for the counterbalance bearings to shift in the rings. Inspecting the shock absorbers DC66-00470D would be recommended next to ensure they are installed properly.

Nita, From your description it sounds like the bearings would need to be replaced from the noise and vibrating complaint. You can also have a damaged spider assembly but you will have to visually inspect that when you have the outer tubs apart. Bearing part numbers and seal are 6601-000148, 6601-002637, DC62-00156A

Dan, based on the information provided, it does sound like the counter-balance ring DC97-12135A is failing and causing the tub to become out of balance when in a spin. It should not rattle when the spin basket is rotated.

Jeff for Model Number WF419AAW/XAA-03

I have dissembled the unit down to inner drum and rear tub assembly. With the inner tub seated flush inside rear tub assembly, there is no lateral movement of inner drum inside the rear tub assembly when attempting to move it back and forth. Looking down vertically at the space between inner drum and the rear tub assembly, and then spinning the inner drum I can see the bottom of the inner drum appears to be true visible against the inside wall of the rear tub assembly. However, the top of the inner drum appears warped moving closer and farther away from the top of the rear tub assembly as the inner tub spins. Per another users video, I noted the balancing ring on front of the inner drum appears to have been corrupted: it sounds like ball bearings are rolling free inside the ring with no liquid inside and making a sound as they collide inside the ring when spinning. I understand the shaft on back could warp and ball bearings could wear out - but how could the inner tub lose its symmetry? Can the inner drum be manually trued up by spinning the inner drum and using a rubber mallet to tap it back into a symmetrical shape? Again, just the front or top of drum appears out of symmetry. Should both balance rings be replaced or is just the front is sufficient if that is the only one making the noise? The rear flange (spider bracket) is corroded but not cracked - since unit is completely dissabled should I replace it? Should i replace ball bearings assuming they have worn by a period of the inner drum being out of allignment and balance?

1 Answer

Jeff, it would be recommended that the spin basket assembly DC97-15478A is replaced as this would be the only way to guarantee that any warp is properly corrected.

Jairo for Model Number chavage99@hotmail.com

Hi there: I replace the spider arm on my samsung because was damaged. when I put all the drum together and installed it on the washer machine, there is a lot of noise when it rotates. Then I though it might be the bearings , but I just removed the balance ring and test the drum rotation and the noise went away. Should I replace the balance ring? it is a noise that is loud when rotates; may be is a consequence of the spider shaft was damaged? Best regards,

1 Answer

Jairo, It would be more likely that the bearings are bad and making the noise rather than the balance ring.

Po Boi, the balance rings should produce a sound of a bearing rolling around in fluid when it is rotated. Usually, a more likely failure would be the spider shaft DC97-14875B or rear tub bearing DC97-15328F (can be identified if the spin basket wiggles up and down freely of the outer tub, there should not be any play between the two). These items can be inspected for cracks and corrosion to identify if there is a failure.

Hello Georgy. If you are talking about p/n AP5581334 then the two of those are mounted only at the front of the washer. Thank you.

1 Answer

Mark, There is a liquid in the balance ring and there will be ball bearing inside so it sounds like this would be good.
