For Samsung Washer Balance Ring Assembly (Part Number: OEM12981123)

Gordon for Model Number WF520ABW/XAA04

2 weeks ago I replaced the door seal because it was worn through around the lower side and my wife noticed today it is worn through again and there are pieces of melted seal stuck to the edge of the stainless drum. I’m guessing the balance rings are shot and inner tub is rubbing against the seal- thoughts? I don’t see and issues with shocks but they are original 10+y/o, that said, the washer has not stopped with a balance issue but the tub does wobble somewhat. I also don't hear any bad bearing noises and can hear fluid in the front ring at least. Thank you

Hello Gordon, If there is no issue with the support springs or shocks, the issue will be with the spinner support assembly DC97-16509B. If this is the case you will need to also order the six (6) bolts DC60-40137A that secure it to the spin basket.

Toy, You will not always hear the beads inside the balance ring. If the unit is getting off balance then the issue will most likely be caused by a faulty balance ring or the shocks.

Johann, this does sound like there are parts of the tub assembly that are out of alignment. If the spin basket can wiggle up and down independently of the outer tub, then either the spyder shaft DC97-15491A or the rear bearings are bad. This can cause the spin basket to rub against the outer tub and peel the plastic away. Unfortunately, if the bearings have failed, they are a part of the rear tub assembly DC97-11526M and are discontinued by the manufacturer.

Austin, it is likely that one of the balance rings DC97-12135A, front ring or back ring, may have a bearing issue. If they sound dry, then the failed balance ring DC97-12135A would need to be replaced.

Jose, There is only one(1) balance ring in your washer. It is mounted to the front of the wash basket with screws (click here and watch the video) DC97-12135A. Balance rings don't "usually" fail that often, but you didn't mention the issue with the washer. It's probably vibration or movement? Do the basic checks, unit level, shock dampers OK, then you may have to check the tub bearings and washtub shaft for excess wear and tear.

Rob for Model Number WF419AAW/XAA 03

So I replaced the spider for the common shaking/vibration problem (the original was not broken, but the basket was running off center and the usual crud was present.) The washer no longer shuts off on spin, but does make many attempts at balancing before finally completing the spin cycle, so it's better but still not right. When I spin the basket by hand, I hear something bouncing freely in the balance ring; does that mean the fluid is gone? Also how much free movement should there be in the shock before it gets stiff? All four of mine move freely about a half inch ---. Thanks

Rob, you may want to check the hall sensor. After accessing the back of the unit, you will want to access the stator where the hall sensor is located. From there, you will want to place the red probe of a multi meter to pin 2 of the hall sensor and the black probe to pin 3. Once these are in place, you will want to have the inner basket rotated by hand and you should read between 3-12VDC. If you do not get this reading, then the hall sensor on the stator [DC31-00074C] is bad. In regards to the shock absorbers, there is going to be play in them and the most accurate way to diagnose them is by process of elimination. If everything checks within tolerance mechanically throughout the rest of the unit, then the last thing left would be the shock absorbers.

We own a Samsung model WF419AAW/XAA 03. How can you tell if the balance ring is bad? When I spin the tub it sounds like something is rolling around inside. So we took the machine apart, replaced the spider assembly because it was broken and corroded, replaced the bolts, and seal to the outer tub. The balance ring appeared fine to the eye, so we put it back in. When it was reassembled part way, I gave the tub a spin and got the sound of something rolling in the tub. Should it do that? How can u tell if the ring is bad? Thanks

1 Answer

Hello Cheryl, The tub ring has ball bearings inside it to aid in finding a balanced configuration for the high-speed spin. It should also contain a small amount of fluid to dampen the movement of the ball bearings. If they sound dry, the balance ring will require replacement.

Mike for Model Number WF330ANB XAA 02

I have my machine apart and after having what appeared to be a balance issue. My wife said she heard a loud bang at the end of a wash. When i tried it with nothing in it , it made a noise at 5 min stopped and went to 1 min instantly. The spider is in tact but dirty and full of crude, the rear bearing is fine the inner bearing has some roughness. The balance ring when shaken you can hear some rattling. Please let me know your thoughts on which parts HAVE to be replaced!

1 Answer

Mike, You will want to check to make sure that the shocks are good, check the springs to make sure that they are in place properly. Check to make sure that there is solution still in the balance ring and there will be a bearing in there as well.
