Hello Mark. If the evaporator is freezing over, you will need an HVAC tech to replace the evaporator assembly in the unit to repair it. There is no need to test the parts if the coils are freezing over, the heater is bad. It is made into the coils.

The refrigerator section in not working. The freezer section works just fine. The refrigerator fan is not turning on even with the door switch closed. I checked for proper voltage at the main circuit board. I am getting 10 volts to the freezer fan, condenser fan, but not the refrigerator fan. I wired the refrigerator fan in parallel with the freezer fan at the circuit board and the refrigerator fan comes on. Do I need to replace the circuit board or is there a failed sensor somewhere that is not giving the circuit board the correct signal it needs to turn on the refrigerator fan?

1 Answer

Jeremy, The fan motor will not work with the door open and the light switch will need to be in a closed state when checking the fan. If the fan is not getting power with the door switch in the closed position and the control board is sending power out to the fan then the issue would be the wiring from the fan to the control board.

Darnell, You will want to check to see if the evaporator coil is building a light frost pattern on it or if it is a solid block of ice. If a solid block then the defrost circuit is faulty and you will need to check the defrost sensor and the defrost heater. If these check ok then the control board is faulty and would need to be replaced. If there is no frost on the coils then there is the potential for there to be either a restriction or leak in the sealed system.

Mark, We do not have an exact size of the cap tube but the cap tube cannot be replaced. The cap tube runs from the filter drier to the evaporator and carries the liquid refrigerant to the evaporator for the evaporation process. The cap tube also runs through the cabinet and is attached to the suction line.

Eddy, With the refrigerator side evaporator icing over you will want to check to make sure that the defrost heater and the defrost thermistor are not faulty. In most cases the defrost sensor is the cause of the problem and you would want to do a resistance check of the sensor to make sure that it is within range and not open.
