Lynne September 14, 2012 for Model Number lat3600aae The agitator in my washer is floating up, and I am looking for the locking screw. When I look up the parts online (https://www.maytag.com/digitalassets/MLPDF/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%20LAT3600AAE.pdf) I see the agitator as part one, but it has several different pieces. The bottom one is still attached and agitates, but the top most part is floating off. I think the screw you mentioned in your response to my last question is to lock the bottom part to the machine. Is there supposed to be a plastic clip inside the bottom part of the agitator to keep the uppermost part attached? It seems to just sit there, so I know something must be missing.
1 Answer Hello Lynne. If the agitator is broke, you will need to order and replace the agitator assembly 22001821 on the unit. Read More...
Lynne September 14, 2012 for Model Number Maytag lat3600aae The agitator is floating up, and I am trying to find out how to remove the assembly to install the new one. I feel a little hole in the side of the bottom of the agitator, but there is no screw. Is this a hex hole?
1 Answer Hello Lynne. The locking screw 22001819 locks the agitator to the shaft so it does not float off. If the screw is missing, you will need to order and replace it. Read More...
Rodney July 13, 2012 for Model Number LAV3600AWW Hello, I have read the questions related to the agitator. I am having a similar problem. My agitator is rising up in the tub. After looking over the suggestions, I checked my unit. It seems that my problem is a bit different. I found the hex nut on side of the agitator and it seems to be in tact. When I lift the agitator, it comes out in one piece. The difference is it is not only the agitator, but the rod that goes down into the transmission itself. All of this lifts out in a single piece. What are my options? Thanks in advance.
1 Answer Hello Rodney. Based on the information you provided, the transmission 6-2097750 is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit. Read More...
Jim April 28, 2012 for Model Number maytag lat1916aae agitator Similar problem as everyone else with my agitator not working. I removed the hex screw and pulled off the agitator. without realizing that the agitator once had grove and spines I thought that the set screw needed to be set into the metal drive shaft. I drilled a hole into the side of the shaft so that the hex screw would hold the agitator in place and keep it from coming off. now the agitator does not agitate! lol Now what can I do to save the beast? Can i still install a new agitator, but what should I do with the hole that I bored into the shaft. Macgyver
1 Answer Jim, You could repalce the agitator shaft WP6-2168983 It's no that hard a task, just messy, if you're not careful. If your serial number starts with the number 22 or higher,it'e even easier, takes about 5 or 10 minutes either way. As long as you didn't damage the splines or set screw you may be able to get by with the original agotator 22001821. Good Luck and Thanks Read More...
Steve April 05, 2012 I have realized thehex screw holds the agitator to to shaft. This has worn down and needs replacement. I wanted to know if the inside of the agitator is grooved to match the shaft. These also may be worn so the entire agitator will have to be replaced. So the agitator would need both perfect grooves and new, longer set screw?
1 Answer Steve, You're on track. Yes the agitator does have internal splines on the bottom, that match and interlace with the splines of the metal agitator shaft, You shouldn't need another bolt, but once you have the agitator out, and check the splines , if they are rounded off or stripped flat, you will need a new agitator. Thanks and Good Luck Read More...
Mike February 11, 2012 for Model Number lat2600aae What holds the auger to the base? The clothes push mine up off the base. The auger has a clear nylon washer but I don't see any thing that holds it on.
1 Answer Mike, if the auger keeps coming off the base the entire assembly will need to be replace 22001821. You can resuse the set screw 22001819 on your current agitator. Thanks! Read More...

Mike S. December 05, 2011 for Model Number Maytag - LAT9457AAM On the above washing machine the agitator seems to work intermittently. There is also an occasional smell of what I think is burning rubber. When the agitator is not working, the motor seems to be running fine. The machine will spin out fine and is pumping out all the water fine. Though the motor gets hot (probably normal), it seems to be running fine. Also about ten days ago the agitator shaft came loose so that I was able to pull the agitator completely out of the machine. I reseated the agitator and seems to be holding fine now. I suspect that the motor to transmission belt may be stretched and in need of replacement. Thank you for your help.
1 Answer Hi Mike. The agitator is part # 22001821. The belt kit is part # 12112425. If you push hard down on the agitator top while in agitation and it makes a grinding noise, the transmission may be bad. Thank You. Read More...
