Washer won't spin or agitate? A worn drive block often causes spinning failure. This connects the transmission to the tub. Moderately difficult repair.

Hello Ralph, There could be something in the pump WPW10730972, there could be a separated pump impeller from the pump motor shaft, there could be a bad connection or a bad harness, or a failed control board WPW10491312.

Steve, you'll need to remove the transmission to inspect the clutch. Check for broken or worn part. The clutch is part number 285785. You may click on the part number to view the parts information as well as a handy video for repair. Thanks!

Steve, For the unit not spinning it sounds clutch is not releasing properly and allowing the spin. Also check the drive block to make sure that it is not damaged.

Steve, The first thing that you will want to do is to check the clutch which would be the most common reason for the unit not spinning after the wash cycle.

Geoff, The " clunking noise when the spin cycle stopped" would indicate that the drive block WP389140 continues to rotate when the drive tube W10820043 has stopped by the brake. You'll need to remove everything from the tub and check the drive tube tabs, to see if they have "rounded" off or worn out and replace the drive block as well.

Kendra, If the noise is a rapid clacking or thumping noise at the start or end of the spin, then yes, you'll need to check the drive block WP389140 and the drive tube W10820043. The retainer slots in the drive block can round out and begin to slip. If left alone long enough, the "ears" or tabs on the top of the drive tube can also round out / off and the tub will not spin.

Dora for Model Number whirlpool LSQ9544kQ0

This looks like a tough repair to me so I want to be as sure as possible that the drive block is the culprit. During the spin cycles, the washing machine makes a machine gun ratatat noise. The machine feels level and a level tells me that it is practically level. If I push down on the top of the machine in the right corner, the noise stops (only to resume if I let go of the machine.) If the drive block is to blame, does it make sense that holding down the machine in one corner would stop the noise? Thanks

Dora, You will want to pull the cabinet of the unit and check to see if there are any screws that are missing or have come loose. The drive block being faulty will not stop when you push on the corner of the unit. This could only be caused by a cabinet noise.
